Cherry picking

I have to be a bit inventive doing stuff on my own, but doing that with a scissor lift is asking for trouble and serious injury or worse.

How many need to be lifted, and how high ?

Hire a telehandler or a crane would be the best bet. Its only money.

The first cherry picker I ever got in was 40m, and it was on a hillside. No training, no instruction, just told to get in it and go drill a hole. This was in the mid '90's and looking back I wonder how I ever got through that day.

jesus...highest ive been in a mewp is 61 meters and that was...wobbly...been up to 55 meters in a man basket, that was quite fun...strangley always seems more stable in a basket, even though its much harder to stay still

Was working out on South Africa in early 00’s and had to get up into a (brand new factory) roof space to measure some exhaust flows. In the uk when I’d done it previously I had used scaffolding, or got taken up in a scissor lift by a suitably trained person, or had proper access.

Here I got thrown the keys to a diesel cherry picker - no instruction, not told to do any checks, no safety harness, just crack on and give us a shout when your done

me and my mate got in one, was on the back of a wagon we went up and over some cars fixing carpark floodlights fully extended it tipped over a bit and was only on outriggers on one side wheels of the deck on the wagon was like a bloody sesaw i went scatty came back down my mate got out and of loaded a few of the floodlights and i went back up

Falling from height doesn't kill you, it can be quite fun in the right circumstances. Tis the sudden stop that does the damage!

Definitely not.......

But you do have to know your machines design load capabilities.....

This machine has a 1000lbs basket load capacity under certain machine setup conditions, it's HOW you apply the load that counts .

I've driven one at 135ft, but I have to agree with Ton-up on this one....

Yep, that would definitely cause a dustbin lid/sixpence moment or two for the uninitiated

That would have been from a lorry mounted platform back then, it's about 90 metres now on a lorry mount, but at least you can't drive them!!!!

Unless it's an under-bridge setup.... now they are interesting.

As some can be driven from the platform when it's under the bridge, no-one in the cab!!!!!

Had a go on a fire brigade one in Surrey years ago over a building and down the other side an interesting experience, bit the same as tower work once you are up a few meters you can die so height becomes the least of your worries.
Had an acquaintance who died falling of a set of steps at home, so the extra 200ft just makes sure of the result. Hate ladders with a vengeance though.
