Not designed to but a concrete floor beam--maybe depending on lifting weight capacity of the machine.

A structural beam--not a chance.

Depends on the cherry picker's load capacity, but let's just say probably not.

Most boom lift style cherry picker's with baskets I've seen are a few hundred kg at most in basket capacity, even the bigger 20m+ ones

I'm sure they have warnings about not using them to lift other stuff.

There are cherry pickers and there are cherry pickers. What the hell anyone is thinking being 80m up or 35m out is beyond me. They must clang when they walk!

We used one to bring a big fan down from the roof by lashing it to the basket then lowering it using the ground controls.

Almost certainly not, depending on the weight of the beam. But even if not overloaded it would probably be frowned upon, I probably wouldn't be entertaining doing it in a work scenario without some written instructions from above...

Some of the bigger scissor lifts have big load ratings. Up to 1000kg in certain cases. The machines arent small though.

Theresa huge difference between a cherry picker and a scissor lift , both are mewp's but different machines , usually cherry pickers are designed to only lift personnel and their tools , you can very quickly reach their limits .
A good Hiab can be a very versatile tool though ,,, but again you have to keep their load limits in mind.

When you say 5 meter concrete beam, do you mean the precast that weigh around 3 ton? Or a lintel?

There are mewps available that can be used as a crane but I have never seen one in person.
Hiab offer one where the basket is on a gimble and attaches to a standard crane. A merlo roto would do both as well.
I think the ones I've seen pictures of that are a basket with a lift point have all been American bucket trucks

ive used baskets with lifting points...sketchy is an understatement...if you are lifiting somehting on a drop chain its fine, but anything like a beam that wants to come up level the centre of gravity can be difficult and there is a tendancy for the hook block, basket and load to want to oscilate between each other which is almost impossible to catch, especially whilst remembering there are living creatures in the basket that ideally need to remain alive

No. Cherry pickers are access equipment and not designed as lifting appliance.

Simple rule is if it can fit in the basket and doesn't exceed the specified weight for tools then it's fine, otherwise not.

Suspending anything from the boom or gondola or loading it across the handrails it completely forbidden, unless it's been authorised by the manufacturer.

if there was more info about the application, height involved, weight, what sort of area is it being lifted into, access issues, location etc.. i could advise on the best methods

Load ratings are based on stuff inside the basket, a 5m beam is outside of the basket 2.5m either side so you’re in dodgy territory.

I take chances but having owned 3 pickers thats a big no no..
