cheap ebay blasting pot - worth it?

if I was u id just change the blast nozzle on the cheap pot to a carbide one and try it out then if your reasonably happy with it change the metering valve . use -- -one 14cfm comp and if its just to say usable buy another and work your way up -- 2 comps and an uprated - pot wont be more than 400 quid

Already got a 3mm carbide nozzle for it but will probably need to go bigger when I uprate the compressor, I did have a bit of a brain fart today though, would it be possible to drill out the 3MM carbide nozzle to something bigger like a 4mm when the new compressor came?

The pot constantly blocks I can't run it for thirty seconds without it blocking, it drives me utterly bananas sometimes. This is why why spending money on it now to get the back of the problems.

Isn't it a 3/8th BSP female thread on the blast pot and the 1/2" BSP female valve though?

I thought it was male 3/8 out of pot I may be wrong though looking at your other comp post what will u be using the pot-for ??small stuff or fairly large stuff

well the valve is female so there must be a male nipple in between -it and the pot

Took the thing apart today and it is a female thread at the blast pot.


So I'm guessing it's a male to male 3/8th BSP to 1/2"BSP fitting I'm looking for?

Another thing I noticed was I'll need another fitting for the hose which goes to the gauge.

Disappointing reading this - I was planning on buying one of these to help solve my suction blasting trouble, but if it's going to need bits replacing that more than double the cost of it, I'm not sure I'll bother. I'm a bit behind with my project, and having to unblock the thing every thirty seconds isn't going to improve my mood.

if u have one just change the blast -nozzle and make sure your media is consistent in size and make sure u keep moisture out of pot . it will do what u require for personal use with a bit of tweeking the grit ball valve .I just made my own and the reg valve copied of the clemco pot because I do a fair bit and don't want -any down time. the pressure pot is far better than a suction gun but I also use a suction gun for small parts using sand and beads

Just too update this a bit, finally got around to fitting the metering valve that was recommended by Brightspark and the difference is night and day, I can run the blast pot continually now without it blocking which it couldent manage before, an excellent bit of kit thats transformed the blast pot from what it was before.

i sand blasting pot and road compressor id be on my long finger list sometime but after reading this i have a few questions you might enlighten me on.
currently i have the 270 ltr 36 cfm compressor here that i have a 1/2 line all the way to outside on a reel of 1/2 flex so id have a reasonable air supply as workshop compressors go.
id imagine the likes of a 120+cfm road compressor would be in a different league but how good a job could my current air supply do?

on top of that, i see pots are round the £1200-1500 mark iirc for a fairly decent one.
which is better out of interest, suction or pressure? and the pros and cons.
if a man made a tank and anything else that needed making what do you need to get up and running?
the meter valve, the hose, the nozzle are some, what else is there?
leaving aside the air for the operator, i have that sorted.
what would all the parts cost do you know roughly, and how do you actually size things.

sorry for all the questions, and i hope the op dosent mind me askin in his thread but i wouldnt mind making one if i thought what i have now would do a good enough job which mostly would be taking light surface rust off new steel say or more if it id be up to it.

got my compressor nearly finished and up and running . decided to blast a couple of steel planters for our lass score some points . I haven't used the pot and set up for a few years as Ive been using the smaller one , I forgot how powerfull it was so was only in overalls face mask and an old pair of specs and thin ish gloves . god I got peppered I was using 1.5mm grit , a bit 2 coarse realy . ok for blasting oil rigs next time I use il wear me air fed blast helmet and gauntlets .

Quick query -

10 gallon vs 20 gallon as the base unit.

Obviously the 20 is less bother with 1/2 as many refills, but the 10 is easier to store.

How much blasting (yeah, i know, but roughly) time do you get out of a 10 gallon before having to refill?
