Couldn’t resist buying a 200mm 3jaw chuck last week it was only 80, (theres a raft of them on ebay at the moment from 85-250) With free return postage, I thought Id give it a whirl.
It turned up this morning, covered in a light oil, and reasonably packaged. Came with in/out jaws and key.
First few turns were not good, very lumpy lots of tight spots throughout the jaw range.
Striped down, found grinding residue just about everywhere. Maybe it was to help deburr the tee slides in the body.
I didn't take any pictures of the strip or rebuild, I kind of got lost in the moment.
All edges deburred and where I could get a stone on surfaces, washed in diesel greased where necessary. It wasn't bad took about an hour.
Made a difference but it was still sticking, each time caused by one of the set screws. I refitted the set screws as removed; they were tight in. However fully tightened they were galling on the pinion gear, loosening each one where tight it soon freed off. Feels really nice now.
I’ve also run a half thou indicator over the body and jaws and it barely moves.
