It’s a tricky balance, I’m ‘retired’ but happy to take on work I’m comfortable with and as long I cover my costs I’m OK, but I’m not doing it for nothing. I provide a detailed quote on every job, including materials, consumables - welding rods, grinding discs, paint, etc. plus my time - I’m flexible on the hourly rate but have to bear in mind the punishing tax rates here and the amount of time spent going out to price up jobs (I’m travelling up to an hour from here) and design time. Urgent jobs also have a price - if I’ve got to drop something else it has to be paid for, even if that’s a day out with my mates

As for this thing, I don't know how difficult it will be for me. Might be I pop out there tomorrow, find a bit of box and slug that fits nicely. Then I will be delighted to pass that saving onto the client. I won't know until I have a good look around but I'd say there's a pretty good chance that might actually happen...

If on the other hand I need to mess around welding up angle iron or, god forbid, actually BUY some stock, then it becomes more of a chore and the price goes up.

Either that or I can send him round to @Kram and he'll make him one for a score. Interesting in a sort of circular way I suppose because I would never even consider the idea of actually paying for something like that...

Ignoring the April fool thread where I had to repeat my mistake, err, remake a part and slice off a huge amount of valuable stock to get another 60mm diameter roller....

It is for the same chap and I am making up the square thing as per the first post. How much should I charge for two custom rollers as below?

They are 60mm diameter, 70mm long, recessed 37mm bearings, one is deeply recessed the other (bizarrely) sticks out by half a mm. I also need to turn up a couple of spacers to suit the new wider rollers and I am supplying a couple of high tensile bolts for which I will charge separately.

So how much would you expect to pay for two custom rollers?
