Chainsaw and 2 stroke maintence

Whats the best liquid for disolving wood sap/resin/dirt off of chains and metal, or plastic? Tried soaking chains in diesel and it wont touch it. Newish chains too, its not old, hardened dirt. I am thinking acetone or similar for the metal but not near plastic.

I recieved the Stihl 020T today, I stuck a new filter and fuel in, runs very nicely.
I think I will want a shorter bar for most of my climbing, will see if my 10" fits from the cordless.

The McCullock CS340 is the same displacement yet the 020T feels like its cutting twice as fast. Can the CS340 be improved?

I do not know if it is the same class of dirt, but for gummed up circular saw blades caustic soda (Cillit Bang grease remover or Mr Muscle oven cleaner) works well.

The caution is that it will strip paint and eat aluminium, so bare steel or plastic only.

I just use loctite water based degreaser.
Real stubborn **** white spirit or petrol.

Saws I'm rebuilding get pressure washed.

Burnt on chains means blunt chain or under oiling and getting hot.

The mchulloch probably just needs the carb tweaking.

Can't help re cleaning. But see the 2 saws the same stroke length? Same bar and chain? Some saws do rev a lot faster, might be worth giving the carb a tune/setup, plenty of YouTube vids showing how.

try white spirit ,, its mighty stuff gentle on most things and very overlooked.

ive used old petrol on it i keep a bit out of mechines that ive fixed and when i drain all the fuel out of them i just keep a bit

remove the chain leave it in there and chain the bar with a brush

Not had any issues using cheap brake cleaner on anything to do with saws, 30ltr tubs off the bay of thieves .

Dry dusty wood causes chains to get ****ty. Or excessive chain heat

Always done mine with a pressure washer, hot or cold. Spray the chain with some WD40 or whatever, and it all comes off.

Maybe you do not have enough oil feeding to the chain ?

Regarding speed, I find out Stihl cuts better on about 2/3rds throttle and not full speed, especially on thicker stuff.

I dont have to clean chain, however filings and grinding dust from sharpening will stick in the dirt and wear everything 100x faster. Nicer if its clean. Not going to clean it for every sharpen, just when I take off to use the electric.

The cs340 gets through oil quick enough, if it were adjustable I might be tempted to turn it down. It empties about the same rate as the petrol.

Do 2T engines have any kind of rev limiter?
The 25cc blower engine is slow and lazy, perhaps designed not to over speed the blower part but it would be nice to increase the power of it.

There's probably a throttle stop you can adjust if you want to risk a con rod in the kidneys

Sometimes coil limited but not always.

It's worth buying a tacho and tuning to the max rpm

Its worth keeping saws clean. I always take the casings off and blow out all the crap, a lot of overheating issues are down to dust build up in and around the flywheel/barrel/carb. Bars get deburred, cleaned oil ways blown out, chains get inspected when sharpened then dipped in engine oil. Always thought it gives the chain/bar a head start on the lube front while the chain gook wakes up and takes over.

This an ms201t couldn't see the cooling fins over heated

Saws are designed to run flat out no part throttle setting. There's something wrong with a saw if it cuts better on part throttle.

Some saws are regulated with a limited coil but mostly the revs are controlled by the carb H screw. Screwing it in will give higher revs by weakening the fuel air mix but will also overheat the saw and risk seizing.
