Cellulose Lacquer Questions

Cellulose is not particularly hard wearing so any abrasive polish will remove some which is what you see on the cloth, a none abrasive polish shouldn't remove the paint but because none lacquered Cellulose is not UV protected it will dull over time.

This is why in my opinion its better to lacquer it afterwards even if safety concerns make you choose a 1k acrylic clear as this gives UV protection which in itself means you don't need a abrasive polish

That’s sort of the advise I was after as to how to protect the paint best and whether a clear coat/laquer would be best used to seal/protect the paint.

Just put plenty of paint on. flatten between coats.

I've found the single pack clear coats tend to craze and yellow over a short time.Mind you last time I used it was 20 years ago when I started using two pack for the small amount of painting that I do.

2 vehicles painted with the same primer and basecoat. the first in 1k clear the second in 2k clear

same gun, same prep, same conditions spraying. both pics taken a month or so after painting, before any flat or polish.

so yes, 1k does craze and go dull quickly.

I guess it depends on what 1k clear you use, I've only ever used Upol 2085 which doesn't craze or crack, yes it duller than a 2k and not as hard wearing but it allows someone to use it without specialist ppe and is a good cover for cellulose imo.

Which is exactly what I am after.

2k is too glossy and just looks wrong on classic cars, plus there are a lot of people who do not want to take the risk with 2k (keep in mind I have to spray on my front drive way it would also be my neighbours at risk)

I have purchased a small amount to have a play with on some spare panels
