I have an 2 unused old 4way collosus units made by Hikvision, I sold one the other day to a guy to replace the one he has had for about 10 years running non stop, The modern random cctv units have some nice features but don't seem to last..

i have 2 of these but there ide not sata my newer one is sata though
but im aware of a device that should be capable of connecting from ide to sata but able to run both ways not just one way like many do

when you're looking at CCTv systems make sure you go for IP cameras

no matter what they say there's a limit to the picture quality you can send over old fashioned coaxial cable - there's a couple of tricks some cameras/systems use to get up to 1080p (but they only just make it) - and 1080p is less than 1 megapixle

I quite like duhua cameras - I think they're pretty much chinese copies of other cameras, I've got a mix or 3mp and 4mp cameras - the difference between those and the oil analog cameras is shocking, with the only cameras you could see what's happening and probably recognise someone you knew... with the IP cameras you can get a picture and description good enough to describe a stranger and have people recognise them (or print the picture)

i have used ide/sata covertors with many ide devices they were cheap so worth a try

Wherever you place the cameras make sure they’re easily accessible. Camera with IR LEDS are magnets for spiders and their webs.

Here you can see some screen grabs from one of the Hikvision 8mp cameras I mentioned earlier, camera is located at work and I viewed and took the images remotely whilst at home.

The close up shot of Bin, is a screen shot of the image from my phone so the it will of lost some resolution.



Camera is located about about 8 meters in the air and for scale the bin in the distance is around 12 meters away.

You can download a nice user friendly app straight to your smart device where you can remotely view any cameras in low res or High res depending on your signal strength.

I also like the fact that you can take snap shots of any camera or record video from that camera into a separate folder if you see any suspicious activity which you can forward on as a email attachment if required

Thats a very impressive picture, I bet they would see number plates quite well, These H265 versions i was reading about seem quite good value.

We have this wired Swann system. It was around £200 from Costco. I like how you can download an app and view each camera from your phone. Records for 14 days.

The Hikvision stuff is very good, seem some images posted on another forum.

One of things that was is if you can't make out a face in the dark then it's pretty difficult to identify offenders.

If you want to achieve proper results then I don't think it can be done on the cheap.

This is the reason i have audio and a it can pay to put a camera that works in total dark with some IR lighting elsewhere to boost it, Its amazing how many people speak when crimes are going on.

Habitual criminals will not be put off by CCTV and half the time the police will have a hard time getting a conviction so they find it hard to charge them, I mean the criminals not the batteries..
