Used car multi-point inspections are mandated by the manufacturer, that is the only way you can get a '<whatever brand> approved used car' sticker on it. Some dealers can sell non-brand used, they are the ones to stay away from. Due to the shortage of new vehicles, used vehicles have kept the turnover of a lot of dealers going, as a consequence, they're retailing older cars (over five years) that previously would have gone to auction, consequently, there will be more failures in the used car warranty period as the average age of the vehicles increases. All dealers are the same, they claim muli point inspections etc etc but when I buy I expect to find out why the previous owner traded it in (or sold it) within the first couple of weeks then it goes back to get fixed.... my last four cars have been like that......
The other problem is people buying older 'performance' cars, expecting 'like new' standards, we had one that bought some AMG thing, ten years old with over 110k on it and brought it back because it was over 60Nm down on spec. (yes, he'd put it on a dyno....). The sales manager bought it back straight away, better to do that and sell it to someone less 'idealistic' than spend time arguing with a wannabe boy racer.
