someone we know has one , is proper dopey they dont have much of the way of fencing and it hasnt wandered off , just too stupid/lazy to leave by the looks of it ...but yeah if it did get out its not smart enough to dodge a car or a fight with another critter

Respect due to your sister for wanting to look after her own animals, rather than just considering its societies job to provide for them.

I’ve never understood why it’s socially acceptable for cats to roam around and crap hither and yon, but considered a capital offence if an owner lets his dog do it. People argue that cats naturally roam around, well so will dogs if the gate is left open.

Suck it and see. Those "ragdoll" cats are complete simpletons in my experience. Probably couldn't make their way out of a paper bag. A standard fence might be ample enough to flummox them.

One is 5 months old and can leap up onto the kitchen worktop from ground level already. I’ve suggested she just wait and see if they show any interest in climbing the 6‘ fence but she doesn’t want to take the risk.

The self closing gate is probably the most important bit. Any parcel guy is likely to hold the gate open to let the cat out!

The front garden is open, back garden is fenced and the gate kept locked from the inside.

I think it's sensible to keep them in, I wouldn't like to think my £500 cat was roaming about at the risk of foxes and badgers or traffic and petnappers.

It's what I did when we moved in here. All home built from wood and chicken wire. The important thing is a "reverse" lip, which discourages them from trying to get over it. They don't like climbing upside down.

I wish all the cat owners around Here would do this...
They all seem to take turns to come into our garden during the day to watch birds having a bath (!) and all come together at night for fightclub (or is that the screeching & growling & running club).

2 of us are severely allergic to cats, too, so its a sore topic...

I’ve never understood the need for such expensive fashion accessories myself.

A lady friend of mine tells me her son has bought two of those little bashed-in-face Pug nosed things, £3k each! She is a big fan of rescue dogs, has several herself, and is more than a bit annoyed at him.

We got ours from rescue kennels.

my friends wife has three rag dolls and they are very thick and lazy

Local facebook is quite full of dogs, either roaming free, or as its a good dog, wouldn't hurt a flea etc, its off the lead in the park (contrary to local bylaws) - which then come up to people, whether they like it or not, people, kids, other dogs on leads, been attacked - my next door neighbour, farmer type, multiple dog owner, while on milk money collection round got attacked - broke her wrist! Sheep attacked etc. The dog shlt issue got so bad the council slapped up enormous signs about it . . .

Whereas a long search about cat attacks, cat poo, cats off lead, etc reveals . . . zero.

Plenty of lost cat appeals, usually followed by many posts about how happy they are, owner included, its back home.

One of my cats stays in the garden, or maybe a foot outside the side gate, so she can nip back in quick. Other one goes out with determination to fulfill its civic duty to rid the world of rodents . . . or is under the mistaken belief I have a hall of fame with rows of trophy heads . . .

My sister, the one on this story, has several local cats that come and crap on her front flowery bits. Take a dump, pretend to bury it, then kick soil all over her path.

When we lived in the far east our neighbors cat would climb the fence, crap in our back yard, then climb back into their yard and go to sleep again. I watched it do it a couple of times, so I dog proofed our back yard and let our hounds go in there. No more cat crap.

I did hear a whole bunch of cat screeching and hissing next day, just the once.

A question: do modern concrete fence posts have steel bar in?

2/3 of my sisters posts are new ones, the rest are years old. I tried to test drill an old one and hit steel 10mm into the hole.
