Cars, Mazda6 estate petrol?

Please can you explain, as my understanding is that the DPF is in the exhaust well away from injectors. I can only imagine two causes? When regen occurs, it floods with fuel to raise the dpf temperature and burn it out, or the large amount of exhaust gas recirculation causes the intake and injectors to soot up, this seems more likely to me but cars without DPF still use EGR...

Extra diesel injected off stroke - goes past the rings.

The extra diesel is to raise the temp of the DPF to burn soot off.

Washing the bores is the technical term.

I had an Octavia diesel on hire - I have a very heavy right foot and got 53mpg. The most I have ever seen on any car. The petrol version I got 24mpg. I love petrol engines but they don't like me

I have spent my life as a habitual lead-foot & twistgrip-wringer.... but I'm trying to force myself out of the habit.

When I got my Ford Ranger Wildtrack biturbo I was getting 25mpg driving very carefully. After a week started thrashing it and now does 28.4mpg. Not great at all but better the harder I drive it which is brilliant

We had Sierra 1.6L petrol as company cars in the 80's, the only way to get anywhere was by burying the pedal in the carpet although I will say they were comfortable, 4 hour drive up to Scotlandshire and still fit enough for a days work

Nothing but trouble with the DPF system, failed regens and engine oil full of Diesel.

Absolute shambles really, looked like the bloke who coded the PCM didn't know his **** from his elbow..

Mostly I think mostly Ford used Mazda engines (and PSA and Volvo)!

The Duratec (which became the Ecoboost) was the Mazda-L engine which Ford took with them when they split.

Not sure about the devils fuel, I know Ford used someone elses (PSA) and Mazda did at one point have their own based off the Mazda-FE engine but also used the PSA ones as well (I just don't know in which models).

Horrific really - early Mazda cars were a safe bet - but I would not buy a diesel one - ever!

God does this make some noise - like a snake when you brake and then drive off.

Later Zafiras used do the same - drill hole and take it outside the workshop to drain - shocking how much water they hold - runs for ages.

They did not (Mazda). I too don't know why?

Ford systems of the that age - are costly to repair - pump/nozzle/pipework and blown fuses.

Current Euro 6 systems - with adblue are even worse.

This was the era of reliable diesels. Had an identical one. Pity they don't make the XUD anymore.

Early HDI or older XUD's are amongst my all time favourites. Had one of the first 205 vans that went on to 300k trouble free miles, that thing was also a flying machine compared to anything else in its class back in the day.

These not cheap to repair either...

You got 5th injector with pipe work - mini glow plug - pump and the "hidden fuse" to the pump nobody can ever find!

People say the 5th injector is impossible to clean once blocked with carbon. But careful use of a oxygen acetylene torch and compressed air line will clear them.

this thread is really making me miss my XUDt 306, amazing engines coupled with a really well handling car. Had plans to up the boost and replace the lucas pump with a bosch one so i could run on veg oil

alas the oil pump failed and it needed a new big end, wish i kept it now and fixed it, only sold it to appease the ex mrs (she drew the line at 2 non working peugeots )

I watch O'Releys Autos on YouTube and he put a video out about cleaning and testing Ford Vapourisers (basically what we used to do with 2 stroke exhausts back in the day!).

I think if the glow plug tested OK (6 ohms) and it came out in one piece I'd be tempted to have a go before spending £450..

Main failure on the Fords is soot blocking the nozzle.
