Carrier bags

What is it 2 odd years ago the carrier bag ban came in ? well today was the last one in the stash to line the bin going to have to buy some now DOH!

My wife has these bags that fit inside each other and leaves in the car, they all neatly fit inside a shopping trolley so makes things easy at the checkout.

Charity bags are good, we get 2 or 3 most weeks. They say they will pick the empty ones up but they just get left outside the door for ages till I bring them back in and they get used for bin liners then. I used to feel guilty about it but not any more.

I don't know what the guide lines are Re: plastic bags. but one of my local shops does still provide them free.

If the company has more than 250 employees, then it has to charge for bags. Another bit of half-hearted legislation in my opinion.

That 250 rule must apply collectively, for the whole group. I bought some books from a charity shop and was charged for a bag, Albeit a secondhand bag that somebody must have donated,

Im proud to say I havent used or bought a bag in yrs....the wife does the shopping.


(She too has reuseable bags in the car, gets a monk on if I pinch them for workshop rag storage)

Many years ago Sainsburys was giving away the re-usable type bags to discourage the use of thin (now 5p) ones, while the offer was on we accumulated about a dozen and haven't bought one since as they replace any worn out ones for free

Those blue boxes with handles & lid that Sainsbury's used to do are handy, never used one for shopping, but superb in the shed. Don't think you can get them now.

Yeah the carrier bag thing is a nightmare here . everywhere you look plastic bags in the ditch, tied on the fence ..I pop into my local village shop for milk and loopaper and the milk and the loopaper get put in separate bags .... I take them out hand the bags back to the woman who runs the shop ,loopaper under my arm milk in my hand,truck keys in the other sorted ..She's a nice woman I get on well with her but ...it's like she is offended that I don't want or need a bag ... and so many shops are like that ...When I do a bigger shop I stick two or three bags in me pocket...but I get raised eyebrows

I think places selling fresh produce like fruit/butcher meat etc don't charge.
