seems like you just answered your own question really with reply...can go back driving but wont get this chance again
Lugging is ok when your 30 but the body suffers as it get older. If you can afford to take the pay drop now then I'd say go for the qualifications because in a few years time with 2/3 kids depending on you it will be much harder or impossible to financially do it. You will always have the driving jobs to fall back on.
I haven't any experience in either profession but do know a chap well who did the haulage/delivery type job your in now. Young and fit he loved it but then jarred his back playing rugby and no matter how much physio (he had to pay for) he couldn't carry on and is now struggling to find anything else with few qualifications. Given the little one on the way it is a tough decision: money now (much needed in your case) or longer term skill/qualification for the long game.
Thanks very much bud appreciate it , still hard to believe its realeither way, congratulations to you and yours becoming parents,
Given that these are two very different types of work, if I were in your position, I would go for the NDT (Non Destructive Testing) option.
The reason being that once qualified in different aspects of this type of inspection, you would have a commutable skill across quite a few industries:
Aerospace - Car industry - Pipelines - Power plants - Pressure vessels - Trains - Shipbuilding etc etc.
is it worth having a word with your current boss and ask considering your current situation, would it be possible if you changed to the new job would he consider giving you some saturday driving here and there, for two reasons to help finances and as you like the job help him out(keep your foot in the door) just a thought.depending that is the other job is in the bag.

What makes you think at 29 you’ll never have a similar option again!? Crikes. I vaguely remember 29 - a fair while ago!, and very successfully changed jobs last year .... don’t write yourself off yet mate.
Honestly, from experience, if you’ve got a job that you can bear, pays enough, and gives you the time off you say, then I wouldn’t be looking to risk any of that for now. The first couple years with that little one are golden times and reading some of your posts you’re already setting yourself up to gamble it away with overtime etc. You’ve got many, many years in you yet to work on career climbing. That’d be my take on it.
Thanks robostar , parenthood will surely be a rude awakening for me , most experience i ever had minding anything was my dog but to be fair i did ok at that hahaGo for the NDT, a guy I worked for went all over the world weld inspection/testing, mainly in the oil industry and congrats on the impending little 'un
Not gonna see much of his little un though if he does that...Go for the NDT, a guy I worked for went all over the world weld inspection/testing, mainly in the oil industry and congrats on the impending little 'un

Yeah thats my dilema , i want to make as much as possible to provide them with all they need, but what good is that when i have no free time to spend it with them
And get realre out of shape and die of something you could have avoided if you did some physical workdo which ever one wont have you busting your balls when your older.
