I've just found my old carbo-arc torch that I used to use for bronze welding/brazing on my old transformer stick welder. I've now got an R-Tech Tig/MMA inverter set - is it safe to use the carbon-arc torch on the new kit ?
Much better on AC, or you need a thicker carbon on one side to counter the uneven erosion (old fashioned theatre carbon arc lamp carbons were like this). Higher voltage than arc welding too. My Pickhill has a low side for welding and a high terminal for twin carbon arc brazing, which is something like 50-80VAC. You could try DC carbon resistance welding with a single carbon, as with the original patent for the 'electro-hephaestus'.
It is unclear whether the original rods are a different composition to currently available carbon gouging rods. I haven't tried any, but I haven't found anyone who supplies new rods specifically advertised as for twin carbon arc brazing, except for NOS on eBid or eBay.
