You are right you could drive a three wheeler on a motorbike licence.
I have drove them all - the Kitten was a better vehicle (but it was produced later and had a full complement of wheels).

Well i do know about them.
I have driven them as well as a Reliant Scimitar GTE V8. I owned it for 18 months, drove it from Petersfield to Bath almost every weekend and once a week. Plus to Germany a few times.
That was a good car.
But the 3 wheeler was not a good car. It could of been. It should of been as well as the Kitten.
But as I said they did not move with the times.

Had the Kitten been produced earlier at a lower sale price - I think sales would have flown at the time. It was a decent little car...

It would of been. But delays in production caused by the attitude of the time held it back.
Plus it was rushed out leading to failours. That had a bad effect on the sales.

I have no problem whatever with any other opinions, from those who have experience and knowledge of the subject. What irritates me is the "Jasper Carrot / Clarkson / Robin Reliant" types who are pure and simple bigots.
It was amusing to see how much trouble Clarkson had to go to, in order to roll one. That taught him a few lessons. They had to put odd size wheels on the rear, put in an unbalanced load and I *think* that they even had to weld up the diff. before it would roll.
The Kitten was a very nice little car, certainly the equal of the Mini, but mass production against hand building gave the Mini an economic advantage. I have restored a small number of Kittens, as well as the odd Robin and Rialto.

I habe met him at his house, I was doing his CCTV and intruder alarm. Very nice block off the TV. I met him again at Kemble Airfield. Again a nice block.
The Top gear show with the Robin involved a lot of fake and hard work to roll the car.
It is ashame there are some who think it is real.
I have driven a robin. I still don't like it.
I met the Hammond at Kemble, same day, now that is a person who is a opinionated fool.

I had Reliant Regal in my teens. I only had a bike license, and my dad bought it for me in the hope I’d grow up and move onto cars instead of motorcycles....
I‘m 61 now, still got a bike, always had a bike.
The Regal served its purpose, dry, warm, stereo..... back seat etc.

The Regal had a weight limit to stick to, thus everything was pared down to the bare minimum as its target audience was basically motorcycle licence only types. I think 800 lbs was the magic number.

Mum and Dad drove Bond Minicars and then Reliant Robins for years. Dad initialy bought a three wheeler as he could drive it on his wartime motorcycle licence. They made the jump to 4 wheels shortly after Mum spun the Reliant on black ice and it wound up on its roof. At least she had the presence of mind to turn the engine off.
