Car port.... not so metal

so this month i have been busy making a new oak framed car port.
this was to replace an old and very bodged together one,

here is a pic of the original carport


the first jobs was to make the legs and fit them into the cross member

and once one section was finished

then i started to remove the old car port and build the new oak structure

and then the oak rafters were cut and put on



next was to place boards on the roof, but to make this look better i used a membrane under the boards


new was to felt the roof



the attach guttering and do some small finishing touches

well i looked into it and it was the same or cheeper to use oak than it would have been pine

in total inc all the stainless fixings, boards, and felt i have change out of 2k

Oak in the UK is retailing at a good price, as we imported a lot from the EU.
A local saw mill was selling oak and beech for a few shackles over pine.

What make saw horses are those?
I have a set of four timber ones which my father made many years ago, but they take up so much space. Was pondering replacing with a set of fold up ones for storage.
Yours look like they are height adjustable too which would be nice.

They look like the same as the ones I got from screwfix. All I can see now is a make wich is different to mine called Bora, but they are indeed strong height adjustable.

they are a set of axminster ones, they apparentl can hold over a ton between them.
and yes they are hight adjustable too

i was not going to as it would make it too dark under the carport

and work is still doing the high power experiments, but has told everyone we are not allowed to comment about them until November

I can't believe oak is that cheap!

I've been debating a totally free standing, oak style car port but out of 6x6 say softwood fence posts.

i got it from Iwood.co.uk and the bigest bits i got were 4x6" as i wanted to maximize the space for the car.
