The big thing with any of the knockoff tools, is to use *genuine* makita batteries with them. The tools aren't generally too far behind the real things but the knockoff batteries can drop the output by half.

Yea I've sheared of M14 wheel studs before with the Makita that were galled solid. A good 1/2" anvil should be fine with 500ftlb working load and 1000ftlb shock loading.
I was thinking of tightening not loosening.

They will tighten a lightly lubed wheel stud/nut, and the torque wrench set to 700nm cracks of with no movement, pretty impressive for a 1/2.

Dunno if you have much use for them on what you work on, but the stubby impacts punch well above their weight. I've not used the CP yet but that Facom is surprisingly powerful. (I'm sure they're identical under the skin, aside from the drive size.)
Yes but you wouldn't tighten a crank pulley with one. D40s are 75nm and 120° you really need a 3/4 d to get that 120°.

Don't know about those engines, but some VW hub bolts are 200nm + 180° and my ½" guns will rattle them off.
A lot of this comes down to air supply anyway.
(Just to join the argument, i use ¾" all the time on cars and vans.)

Tbh it is nearly all cordless now, used to use a snap on mg325 to remove truck gearboxes, only thing I used the bigger mg725 for was to get the prop bolts off.
I have some of them swivel fittings on my needle gun, very useful they are to.

I think bacho socket sets are hard to beat for the price.

I'm still fond of air tools, won't be replacing them any time soon.
Those swivels are great, i use them on loads of stuff.
To be honest, so much cheap stuff is good these days. Most of the tools in my mobile box are cheap Sealey/similar. They lived on my service vans for 5 years and still get abused daily. So far i've only broken 1 bit socket.
Sealey, Draper, Laser, US Pro, BGS, Franklin, etc. They all make really good stuff that's pretty cheap.

Wouldn’t waste time or money on half inch chrome sockets they honestly aren’t worth it I just buy good quality impacts.
Irwin bolt grips are worth thier weight in gold.
Left hand drill bits.
Have a lot of snapon 1/4 and 3/8 sockets if I were doing it over I wouldn’t bother with deep or shallow and I’d just by semi deeps and then get cheep shallow and deep sockets. Though their spark plug sockets are worth the money though some of the jap ones are good too. 3/8 snapon crows feet too are the best I ever used and I’m chucking my line spanners in favour of them.
My personal preference is to buy good stuff up to 19 mm the cheaper after that. Decent punch and chisel set.

Just thinking about those days...
I can even build something that I need like the spanner extension I've had to build because I don't have an 18mm deep socket .
Which I needed to remove 2 very tight bolts.
I was also thinking about tools I've bought that actually have no sense.
Like the trolley bed/chair to go under the car.
It has no sense at least with my equipment , it's ok for checking underneath the car ,but not for actually working on it , let me explain why...
If you don't have an impact yet like I am, you have to use regular spanners ratchets and such.
You can't apply any force if you are on this thing because you'll be just moving in the opposite direction of the applied force ,in fact, I've used little bit in those days just for light use and just laid on the floor to apply force .
It's been a delusion ,cool to see but actually almost useless .
Yesterday I went to our local big tool shop .
And while looking at hydraulic jacks (actually considering a valex one ,I'd never ever thought about this brand) I've seen a floor scissor lift for transmissions and other similar things, well 180 euros for what's basically a scissors jack with a larger base and 4 wheel I think is way too much money for what actually is .
I can make one instead buying it .

Still have all my air tools, do not think I will ever sell them, as quite a few times the cordless gear will not cut the mustard and it is air tools to the rescue.

I would strongly suggest investing in an impact wrench, either air or a reasonable cordless one - mid torque would be ideal.
I started off working on cars 30 odd years ago with just a basic socket set and stripped and rebuilt several before I finally bought an impact. Even now having used one for ages, I'm still surprised how easily it will remove a rusty knackered fastener, which I know for certain would round off or snap if I was doing it by hand.
There are a lot of tools which are nice to have but you don't really need to do basic maintenance on a car, but I'd still go for an impact purely for the amount of effort and heartache it will save.
The problem with working on cars is that no matter how many tools you buy, you will still always find something else you "must" buy. And by the time you have bought all the tools, you will be fed up with working on them. I think it's probably best to start with a minimal toolkit and expand it as you need.

The impact is on the way ,a friend of mine bought it for me as a Christmas present.
Minimal toolkit is almost there , just need to expand little bit adding few things , most important one is an hydraulic jack,a serious one because I'm always asking someone to lend it to me .
Torque wrenches are needed for the Same reason , it's already the third time I'm needing them and I've had to ask so definitely time to buy them
Oetiker hose clamp pilers set is a must have because everything on a car is held in place with them and sometimes you can't replace them with regular screw type hose clamps like unfortunately in my clutch master cylinder where only oetiker can be used, otherwise no tollerance to the servo brake bell and no way to get a bolt where it's needed.
Fuel line pilers are another must have.
Looking pilers to stop fluids coming out from hose too .
Those tools are are top on my list.
Plus the 3/8" sockets set

quality brake line spanners make a world of difference
i had a what should have been a ok quality brand and rounded off loads , then upgraded to some used snap on's , expensive still but very rare to slip on old brake pipes , worth it imo , the difference between a 10 min job and all afternoon running around getting a new line made
