Another one to consider is the mini 0805 the camera can be unclipped from the base which has the GPS module in it and stays fixed with the wiring. Only issue I had was it plays back fine on the laptop but not so good on the desktop PC

The deed is done and a vantrue is on it's way, suppose I had better stand in the garden all night and watch for one of those annoying little delivery drones

The only thing I don't like about it is the name, probably aimed at white van man.

I thought my Chinese cheapie was ok until I checked it at night and it was totally useless.

This is a shot of the car coming up the road at me, we were both doing 30mph I guess, it also proves the clarity was rubbish, it would have been enough for insurance purposes but I simply want better.

Have the Mini 0801 in my off road toy and the 0805 in my Disco 2, happy with the video quality and love the size as it tucks up between the rear view mirror and windscreen so very unobtrusive.

Few years ago I had a Cherokee XJ with a cheap £20- ebay dash cam and some lowlife smashed the passenger window and pinched it. They could have had the camera as it was crap, I was more ****** off having to source and replace the passengers window

It's mostly sold in the US, where a "van" is what we call a people carrier, typically driven by soccer moms. Not sure whether that makes you feel any better, Mom

The Vantrue cam arrived today (still hate the name), not a delivery drone in sight only a spotty faced delivery kid who walked across the lawn and left muddy footprints in the porch

So...remember I only have an ebay cheapie to compare it to the first impressions are very good, even the box is nice, can't believe I am that sad I am impressed by some quality cardboard

Straight away you notice a difference in feel and weight, it comes across as a very well built bit of kit and small...in fact very small, which is exactly what I want.

Threw the manual in the drawer (read that later perhaps) and dived into the menu, very easy to set up and interestingly it has GPS, speed etc options, I am fairly sure @skotl was unsure about that, so an additional unexpected bonus.

Playing on the pc and the picture quality seems superb, will give it a road test tomorrow and post up some screen shots.

So at the moment it seems a great bit of kit for the price.... more to follow.

Never had one, and to be honest I'm I'm a bit flummoxed by electrical stuff thats less than 200 amps output.

I was curious about the features that you said you didn't need ??

The features are GPS mapping, it gives location on the screen and with some you can use software to show your route etc, it also displays your speed, so for evidence you could state I was there and doing that speed.

I was not bothered about any of that, still don't know if I have it or not, the book does not cover it but the camera menu allows me to enable it, will find out tomorrow after a road trial.

Yes it's the N1, came across the GPS and speed doo dahs when going through the cam settings, so I set them to on and will find out tomorrow if it displays on the recording when I go for a run out.

It may be a standard software across the range and the N1 may actually not have that function, we will see.

Advice is don't stick the speed display on, should inadvertently exceed the limit or be excessively crawling along...

Hmmm ...on reflection I suppose there are good and bad points for the speed display and knowing my luck only one of them would come back to bite me

A bit of investigating clears things up.

It has got GPS tracking but you need to buy a GPS mount, not bad though at only £17 from Amazon.

This video (not mine obviously) shows what it can do, the mapping is very impressive but I suspect the novelty would wear off.

Reviewed some footage from my sons Rexing V1P today. Very clear forward, the rear is not as high res but still good and usable. Sound quality is very good as well.

Back with the final views of the Vantrue after a few runs out, am very pleased with the clarity, size, options and especially the 'hot shoe' fitting which allows quick removal without disturbing the holder or power lead.

Don't really have a video to show, terrible fog, rain and semi darkness make for boring viewing, the only decent shot that could be used has me mentioning how another driver's parents were not married and detail how I wished him a painful car insertion, certainly not family friendly and proof I had forgotten this cam has a very good microphone, one option I may well switch off

I don't think I will bother with the GPS mount, I would probably be like a kid with a new toy for a week and then never use the function again, car cams tend to be forgotten about and only remembered when an event proves their worth...hopefully never.

So thanks to @skotl advice/suggestion I bought this cam and if anyone is looking for a very good cam under £60 then I agree with him in that it is a little gem.

Here are a couple of stills, clarity is still affected by the miserable weather we have today and the fact the cam is not in it's final position but I think it shows it has good capability.

If you need to know anymore then give me a shout, other than that...over and out.

Those are impressive stills - certainly detailed enough if evidence ever be needed. Imho, the ability to read number plates is paramount in any footage and yours looks to be well up to the job.
