@cumbriasteve - are those stills shot with the actual still image capture mode or are they grabs from video?

Do you have any footage/grabs (not still capture) that show any number plates?


Edit: images showing plates would be for evaluation purposes so a pm maybe if you don't want to publicly post?

There's a still from my video at this post (click the pic to expand it to fullsize), which clearly shows the licence plate and was taken with the same model of camera as Steve's.
And I don't care about privacy cos it's an Urmerican car

I was considering a dash cam for the new motor, started looking and evidently one with a Sony Starvis sensor is the way to go, better frame rates and low light resolution etc. etc. but the price! Can be up to 350 quid for a combined front/back 60/30fps unit. I have no intention of paying that much, but on the other hand there is no point buying one that records carp images that are no use in any insurance claim etc.

Given the last post in this thread is a year ago and things move on, where is the wise money going now? I can't believe this isn't an option on all new cars now.

My transit custom has a camera in the windscreen for various bits and bobs.
They should link this up to an optional DVR for a neat solution (same with reversing camera)

New car has various cameras for parking and lane control etc. but probably low resolution but wouldn't cost 'em much to upgrade them so they can be used for a dash cam too, probably be a £400 quid option on a new car though

Sadly I think it could get to the point where there is a need to have a camera. I do quite a lot of miles and I have seen loads of stuff where it would have been good to have it recorded. The bit that concerns me about the GPS tracking/speed part is it's guaranteed the day I need to rely on the footage I'll have been fracturing a law or two.

We have a nextbase 412g that have a fast release and a pouch, We have a few spare mounting so we just move it between vehicles, Ir has a 128gb card in and very happy with it as it was on offer when it was purchased, Also the mic is turned off as we have used some choice words after being cut up, I must get round to dumping all the back ups to you tube.

I think it had an upgrade to run the bigger cards, I will ask my mate tomorrow and post back.

i have the 312gw and its a good little camera, the nextbase ones are supposed to give you money off insurance but ive yet to ask the question.

you can turn off the gps recording part and speed. no idea if thats just removed visually though in the footage but still recorded elsewhere??

If you can’t do PDF’s;

Format SD card(32GB or smaller)
Place .bin file on formatted card
Turn off Dashcam & disconnect USB power cable
Insert SD card
Connect USB power cable
Bottom left LED light will flash to indicate installing update
Dashcam will automatically reboot when install completes

My Vantrue, what I bought as a result of this thread does not have GPS, it is a low priced addition if required...which I don't for the reason mentioned.

Although I tend to be pretty good at sticking to speed limits I would bet the very time I required the cam evidence I would be a few MPH over.

Still very pleased with the purchase.

Hope the Collective can advise on the following?

I have a Mobius camera I want to fit to the rear screen, but access for feeding the power cable is very limited. I found a suitable route without dismantling half the back seats etc, but am stymied by a 'thing' on the cable



It looks to be merely clipped round the cable, but before I attack it I'd like to know that I'm not going to render the cig lighter to camera connection useless, or worse, dangerous.

????

It’s a ferrite noise suppressor, it should just be clipped on but it’s probably on there for a good reason.

should be able to unclip it to route the cable and then put it back on though

I get the impression SBF wants to remove it completely.
it's worth a try, if it creates issues then as long as it's not irreparably damaged it can be refitted or failing that you can probably get another.
