It was my wedding anniversary last week, so we decided to go out for a meal.
WE SAT FACING EACH OTHER ACROSS A TABLE.
I brought up the idea (again) of buying a campervan when we eventually retire and having a few days away here and there. My wife has made a few noises about it in the past ("has to be big enough for two dogs"), but she has since gone off the idea. Fine, say I, I'll go away myself for a day or two.
"Why don't you build a camper?" She said.
It was one of those light bulb moments. I've had a few over the years where someone has mentioned something off the cuff and I've taken the idea and run with it. This was one of those. The conversation moved on but I was lost in thought.
When we returned home I Googled and I found what I was after. "CampBox" trailer. I'll post the walk around video. I see it as 2 parts:
The Trailer.
The Box on Top.
I am confident that I can make the Box on Top. The trailer is another matter. After much searching (including this forum) the consensus of opinion seems to be to buy a donor trailer and build on top of it rather than build one from scratch. TBH, my welding skills are at a hobby level, so I doubt I could build a trailer to pass an IVA inspection anyway.
With that in mind I've started searching for potential donor trailers. One that cropped up a lot in conversions is a Sankey Wide Trailer. There just happens to be one for sale not too far from me at the moment, sale price £450. It has a Nato hitch, which I would have to source.
Questions:
General thoughts & potential pitfalls about the idea?
Is £450 a bargain/the going rate/taking the Pee?
Thanks in advance!
