Callipers painting

I remembered I did a steel cam cover in smoothrite and that worked great apart from me being clever and painting it white - the oil that got out of the engine made it go brown.

Halfords did a brilliant heat resistant satin black spray paint a few years back but stopped selling it, I did a bike silencer with it as a quick tidy up and it lasted forever.

That may have been the stuff I use on my TVR's inlet manifold and plenum chamber; although they said satin black it's always looked more like graphite grey to me... but it has stayed put despite the heat soak of a 4L V8 for a few years (apart from where the bonnet liining has rubbed it off...).
I think it was that stuff that made me buy their caliper paint as I expected it to be good: it wasn't.

That's the stuff, the graphite grey rings a bell as it gave a factory look to the silencer.

Toolstation does a very similar satin black high-temp paint I like, looks just like that.

smoothrite = scratch magnet + generally soft IMO. Be OK for a old wheelbarrow I guess.

i did my calipers and rocker covers and all sorts in vht wrinkle paint...its a bit tricky to get the hang of but looks cool when done..just anding me two pence worth .....

Plasticote barbecue or stove paint from b&q (i'm 99% certain they're the same thing) its satin black goes on ok, no need for primer and sticks like sh#t to a blanket.

Wrinkle finish? Try Smoothrite black, go for a perfect gloss stove enamel finish then give it another coat the next day and watch it turn before your eyes into a lovely satin Nitromors effect. You can't spray wrinkle finish better than that!

Try replicating a factory finish with cans, all the tests and fur cups look the business until you paint the finished item!
