Thanks for all the suggestions powder coating sounds great but I don't have the equipment...I think I'll go with hammerite smooth I will post pictures of my progress.
Powder coat them.
Primer isn't a necessity, in most cases. It has its uses, but most paints will adhere to a properly prepared surface without it.
2 rite as said a couple of coats of smoothrite will be fine and it will stand the heat. i painted the barrels on my norton with it and its still on after 5 yearsI can have them powder coated but why not to paint them myself?
