Black Pearl nitrile gloves are supplied to us by Lyreco - not sure of the price from them but can be found sub-£5 per box, quality is above average, just. If I had to buy my own, they'd probably be the best cost/quality balance. I also tend to use Tegera Pro over them for heavy work.

ROOFMAN , what is the normal life of a roof done in Marley concrete roof tiles , this roof was done in 1979 .
Underfelt is shot , I'm being told it is almost as cheap & certainly more sensible to strip it re -do a breathable one way membrane and fit all new tiles including screwed down ridge tiles and tile edgings instead of mortaring them in ( Not allowed any more ?) .

Should be life left in the tiles with regards to water tightness, but the old type 1F bitumen based felt is history by now i bet, i bet its rotted at the bottom eaves too.

Many thanks , been thinking this over a lot yesterday and today , I asked my las if she'd rather have a holiday abroad this year or a dry roof over her head for the next 40 years or so .

They used a net looking material sandwiched between to sheets of brittle grey plastic that caused the roof to sweat like crazy after each rain storm, till I got the expanding spring loaded corrugated inserts slipped down the rows of membrane and poked under tiles . As well as putting a louvered 6 inch lined hole on each gable end to get some drying air flowing through .
It seems the membrane has died just like next doors who's bungalow was built the same year as ours .
She had her's re-roofed two years ago ...loads of damaged edges on the removed tiles and little or no mortar on the ridge tiles , due to people walking on the roof at the ridge to put TV aerials up or repoint the badly built chimney without scaffolding in place .
I guess the idea of using new tiles means it's going to take less time taken to skip the old ones straight off the roof and put up new ones off an elevator on the back of a truck inn that you ought to have sufficient quantities of so that the new roof will have some sort of warrantee.
Whereas using old tiles won't afford you that protection ?

I'm 73 this year , my lass is going to be 60 I'm hoping investing in a new roof will see us off this mortal coil without needing yet another roof in 40 years time .

I have almost given up buying local as 75% of the engineering type places have gone, screwfix and tool station nuts and bolts are poor. I buy nearly all of my consumables from the Autojumble, I don't think I have had any poor quality stuff yet. Needed an off cut of 25mm x 5mm ally angle, local place wanted £40 for 1 m! Scrapyard weighed it and charged about £1,70 per KG!
I need some Sika products this week but unless I buy a box of 12 it has to be mail order

regarding gloves ive started using these , okay no use if elbow deep in liquids , but for grubby car jobs they last all day , hands dont get sweaty either

I've got some proper decent nitrile gloves at 10 a box.
Only size 9 (large) though!

I can attest to the quality of these, miles better than the tuffgrip I used to use. Probably the best ones I've ever had, will resist gunwash for ages when wiping down panels.
They are a big fitting glove - I normally use large but medium was a nicer fit on me.

I buy most stuff online and it is usually cheaper, it just annoys me that most places sell everything with free shipping. It means that when you buy more than one item it is costing far more than it needs to (still usually cheaper than in a store). Example a box of gloves might mean half the price is actually shipping and if you buy some more small items it adds up.

I've switched to using the thicker orange ones...they're excellent and reusable. I keep a box of junk ones for the err...jobs where you just wouldn't want to reuse the gloves!

I was in screw fix the other day...box of sharpies for £20....I mean come on...marker pens for £20!

I saw those....but I was also looking for hose connectors and the prices were crazy. Seems like almost everything I want to buy has gone up by 100, 200 even 300 % or even more. So I simply don't believe that inflation is at 10%.
What's worse though is trying to get credit. If you shop around it's easy to destroy your credit rating.

If you want to take a loan as credit cards that were 0% for 3 years have not been paid back because of covid and interest rate rises you need to have 75% unused credit.........if you only had 25% used credit you are less likely to need a streamlining loan.

Applying for a credit card is ridiculous in that you are not told how much your limit will be until you will have damaged your credit rating.

I have a credit rating of 1000 out of 1000 with one of the credit rating companies. I was sent an email suggesting I was pre approved for a credit card.
1200 limit....lol

Now before I am pillared for using credit cards I realise its a bad method of borrowing but interest free years would have been paid of if it were not for covid and Lizz truss.

I don't mind free shipping, I can usually make an order up to get it and after shopping around I've usually got more or less the best price on whatever I want anyway without buying four gazzilion.

What annoys me is a minimum delivery charges - say I want to buy some lightweight jiffy bagable item @ 4.99 but minimum delivery charge 8.99+VAT
Even worse when you find the outfit also has an ebay/amazon shop and offers the same thing cheaper with either free p&p or an option for royal mail 2nd class.

Conversely some places like ffx tools can be cheaper to buy from their website direct with free shipping than on ebay. So its a mixed bag and worth double checking before buying

FFX are a right bugger, they always jack their prices up on ebay just before they have a "15% or 20% discount".
That and their black Friday sale, which consists of sticking a black circle with an arbitrary "number of remaining units" at their regular prices which counts down and often magically resets.

I've noticed lately they have some sort of price matching algorithm that updates their website to track the "sold by amazon" pricing.

Used to buy a bit from them, but their yo-yo pricing approach is annoying, and they aren't all that competitive anymore so it’s put me off.
I did manage to catch them out once when eBay put out the code early before they had managed to update their listings
