Burglar deterents.

Has anyone any experience of the so called fog and smoke intruder deterents?
I`m also interested in the ones that generate a very loud noise which is so loud that humans just have to get out the place.
This is for workshops which are isolated and difficult to reach quickly.

They're called Flash-Bang grenades...SAS used em in the Iranian Embassy storming - whip one of them in & the Pikey's eye-balls will be rolling around your shed floor!

i have a bad experiance of the fog type!....... i work for the electricity board and i had a power cut down a high steet. i killed the power from the substation to repair the fault and on my walk back i saw slight SMOKE coming from a shop........ after looking at it and discussing it for a bit we decided to call the fire brigade ...... out they come shut the road, 6 fire engines and hydrolic cutters to get the shutter open mullered the shop front to find......IT WAS A FOG TYPE INTRUDER ALARM! battery must of gone where we killed the power lol

sorry to put a downer on the fog systems lol

i have a normal alarm in my workshop with a 110db siren inside and out side too.... sensors on all windows and doors,
i personally think if they want something they will get it!

Don't know about the fog n smoke, But we had a 148db siren in the last workshop and it was LOUD

I have a couple which I purchased from my local sports "gun" shop. quite legal they work on a trip wire which fires what looks like a short 1" blank shotgun cartridge, need I say if you were in close proximity when this went off in an enclosed area, your eardrums would be whistling for a few days after, can be heard a mile away.

alarm guns there called a spigot that can be screwed to a post with trip wire and fires 12g black powder cartriges quite legal only £12 ,oo

Our electric fence uses the pain type sirens and they're not wrong !!
A couple of them in the workshop will leave some very deaf pikeys

Ah, the grey area of burgular deterents.

I don't think the trip charge devices would deter hardened thieves unless the noise was going to alert nearby people, they'd be deafened but they may carry on.
If the workspace is isolated and they do set off the device they may just return in 20 mins when they see the coast is clear.....

I think a bloody loud continous siren (that's protected from damage) is the best option, they'll be being deafened constantly whilst alerting everyone withn a mile.

They are not afraid of noise or light they are afraid of what it'll attract, attention.

Shame, there was a wasps nest in the garage roof in the summer i could have inserted a electronically detonated banger, trip wire switch.......

You can get ones a lot louder than that. Like I said the one in our w/shop was 146/8db

I know the pikeys do not like geese, the practicalities and logistics of keeping a goose or two in the workshop may not be possible, but they are a darn good deterrant.
Other than that a good system of light and sound that not only illuminates them but makes a continuous racket that is bringing attention to their actions, before they gain access would be a priority to me, and a system that would alert me by mobile phone technology, to give warning and be able to either get up there quick or notify the police.
All you can do is make it difficult and time consuming to gain entry, bear in mind the weak points such as access by the roof which seems to be the preferred method of entry these days, so pirs covering the top of the walls, roofline should be a consideration.

On the subject of burglary. A mate of mine in Grimsby told me a story last week about this burglar who broke into a club and emptied the slot machines. He was away with a few hundred quid in coins when he was spotted by the Police. In an attempt to escape he jumped into Grimsby Dock and the weight of the coins caused him to sink and drown. Rough justice but its saved us taxpayers the cost of another holidaymaker.

as i was driving home one night i saw loads of police round a bridge next day in the paper was the story the guy had stolen loads of copper cable and filled his ruck sack the cycled off but the cops were onto him so he dumped the bike run along the river bank so far and jumped in to lose the cops they found his body next day up river same as technical's post the weight of the copper killed him
