Asking for technical opinions on this one. Can't really afford to get it wrong and although somebody else will be doing it, I want to know the best practice.
It's a 50mm dia steel prop shaft, which is rough and pitted when it has been running through bronze bushes for the last 50+ yrs.
It transmits the power of a Gardner 4LW to a barge propeller.
The bushes will be renewed.
We are struggling to buy bright round bar long enough to make a new one, it's 3340 long.
Probly forced to build it up and turn it down.
What rods would you use, what proceedure, would it be hard facing rods, or what?
Would the shaft need to be warmed up much?
Mucho appreciado Jerry
