I've gained a few that way on larger jobs , my very first paslode ( first fix ) came that way many moons ago on a huge studding job .I would be in the former camp of a few drill bits. Tbh id have written the cost of a cheap mag drill into the price of the job.
A lot of my tools have been paid for by customers.![]()
and no ideaAll the gear …
They are builders. They know everything…..You would have to doubt the sanity of their manager or boss, why would you let a team struggle like that
Bob
at least you tried to educate themwas watching some builders use a 5 inch dewalt angle grinder brand new on hire to cut out a large 3/4 steel gusset with a grinding diskthey were forcing it in and slowing it right down
i went and told them not to press on keep the speed up and run it back and forth . just took no notice and carried on in 5 minutes they burnt it out and it was stinking
i just said serves you right some people cant be helped
Those are the dogs. I have a job profiling plate for someone. It’s a recurring job so worth putting a bit of money into to streamline it at my end. I use the plasma to do the outside and spot the hole centres, then use a HMT tool to put the holes in. It’s a nicer job.For a load of 12mm holes on site these days I'd price in a HMT turbotip one for every 20 holes, probably get 50ish holes out of them and pocket the rest.
Why that over conventional drills? Speed and convenience. Could do 3 holes with an impact gun in the time it takes anyone else to do one.
Should of bought the bell end this for his birthdayI have to say, watching a gobshite site manager who couldn’t wait 5 minutes for us to finish our brew climb 10 foot up a ladder and lean on the mag drill like it owed him money, causing it to pop off, smack him in the face on the way down and lead to him lying in a crumpled heap on the blokes lawn was one of my better days in that job
It’s the same manager who at the ripe age of 49 demanded an apology from me because he spent all day stood behind me watching me weld and got a flash in both eyes. He rang the company owner at 3am quite literally sobbing because he thought he’d gone blind. Apparently I should have told him that could happen. Taught him about being in the way
So he could lock himself to the desk so he couldn’t cause any trouble ??
not needed with these Dewalt Extreme 2 drill bits they have it all in one
Just realised I need 6.4mm or 1/4" for rivets - they don't seem to do that size![]()
I did rescue a few but most had gone blue they are never any good after being that hot.It sounds like this job is a source of 1/2" drill bits, only want a re-sharpen.
