Broken delivery - question on rights?

Poor packing pees me off, but it seems to be so commonplace nowadays. It's inexcusable.

I bought 6" length of 2" OD aluminium round bar off ebay, it turned up next day in 3 layers of bubble wrap. No damage.

but many dont like paying packaging charges and dont want to pay a pallet charge just for a motor

One of my suppliers bolt motors onto a small pallet with the motor in a box then tape the box and then strap it to the pallet. Then add a large label that the box must not be removed from the pallet. I have received one that was removed from the pallet and the foot mountings were broken. As the carrier had obviously removed it from the pallet they had to pay for the replacement.

7.5 only have enough space in them i bet you wouldnt like being charged 150.00 just for a motor on a pallet.

you think small pallet what transports that small pallet as the pallet truck is used more for big things

a pallet is hard enough to grab and pull up the truck but a stacked pallet is impossible to lift off another pallet

i cant blame the drivers that are sent out in vehicles without tail lifts for items that are sent on pallets

was following a luton van with parcells. it had a pallet truck in every time he accelerated it hit the tail lift and when he braked whacked the parcells and bulkhead i counted at least 40 times

no the tail gait lift only goes up as few feet and it has a pull down corugated door that was still up .you could see the handle merrily going round he must have heard it but didnt give a toss a sane person would have tied it up

Good point. When you think about it, that's all they do: ship boxes.

Not as if they build the things, all they have to do is stock them and ship to the customer. That is the only thing that has failed in this transaction. Moot point, the OP bought a new motor and received a dropped and broken one. I wouldn't be messing about with repairs unless they offered me substantial compensation (which I would regret a few years later as the "slightly broken" article becomes unreliable before its time).

I'm likely being too soft, but have agreed to go over Monday and drop and collect a new motor and also have the the VFD tested by their "technician" while I wait just in case, as they don't have any more in stock.
I'm on the road so not paying for the fuel, but even so it's 3 hours out of the day but would rather this than chance the DPD dropper again.

On top of which, I know where they live now I'm not the most menacing, but can turn it on..

Sounds like a sensible option, gets the job done and if true about the VFD, probably a good idea.

Stuff happens, nothing is ever perfect.

You could always wear your welding gear, that should speed up the exchange and VFD test.
