your ping is very high should be around 5 - 10 ping even for wireless

router is clocking a good input of speed and also output of speed

the booster is equal both ways you can test again any time

it also reads its limit is equal both ways therefore your speed for incoming and outgoing is 7mbps for incoming and outgoing signal

Stuck to the BT master socket position. Its a twin socket type affair with the normal phone socket and the smaller socket above it. There are other phone sockets in the house but the home hub won't work on them

Do you actually need the booster to connect where you usually use your computer/other devices?

I've seen a few people get sold boosters when they have no need for them at all and all it does is ruin the connection...

Asking bt for advice is all well and good, but all they'll do is send an engineer, then charge you for the visit because the problem isn't with anything of theirs.

Yes, we need the booster to get the signal upstairs - I'm sitting very close to the hub now - I'll do the same test upstairs at the other end of the house in a mo.

have you also tried to turn your modem around or sideways as sometimes doing this makes the wireless signal better

The router I have at work seems to have the ability to reduce the radio power, have you looked to see if yours has this option and is on full power

The more recent master sockets have filtration built in and don't use a micro filter.

BT infinity is 'fibre'. It's actually 'fibre to the cabinet'. Very few UK residences actually have fibre to the property.

For comparison, copper broadband has a maximum of around 10 Mbps.

I've got about 3.5 Mbps, because we're too far from the exchange (well, green cabinet).

Snap so frustrating at times

We changed for bp to ee got new router and the speed has increased. From 2.5 to over 3

The old router we had slowed down the wifi, We changed it to a ASUS with more antenna and now i pretty much get over 100 Mb round the house, VM claim the local are gets 200 Mb but i think thats just a marketing claim.

Nice, that's the theoretical maximum. I'm guessing you're close to the cabinet?

I should have said 'real-world maximum for the average connection'.

Or, we could be like BT etc. and state that everyone has 'up to' 24 Mbps.

Ping average = 290
D/Load = 6.6Mbs
U/load = 0.38

Took two years of faffing about to get fibre from BT. Had five megagiblets on the old system and now have fifty, trouble now is my pooter cant process any quicker so its not actually any faster than before. The only real difference is that when all the kids are in and flicking through their phones the fibre broadband wont crash or grind to a halt like the old system.

I have told them that I will take it up once they have finished repairing the roads and footpaths that they have destroyed to lay cables. It is wrong that they were legally permitted not to leave the surfaces as they found them.

we are on the first line setup in the area so its getting old now



we can play 3 online games on the same internet from 3 different computers

had bt at first had it for a while until a bust up with them on about speeds and what i could recieve as to far away from the exchange system couldnt get the speeds that i was paying for had the cheek to try to charge another 50.00 a month on top of what i was paying for all ready that forced a change of supplier been with them for years now

mum got cut off on bt for a late payment even at her age and had bt for well over my age payed it no problem for donkeys years 50+ to reconnect her it was a charge of 100.00 and old bill payed up as well of 60.00

if your ping is that high either try adjusting it or your having problems on your line

is there a junction box where the line comes into property are you connected to this or to an extension ?

your line ping should be around 10ms up to 30ms any higher and your having problems with latency and losing information in your connection

Router is connected straight into BT main box in, PC then to router by cable, not wi-fi. I seem to remember doing this exercise some time ago abnd the map showed ping as coming to my postcode from Perth - what's all that about.....?

Luckily I don't use it for streaming films etc, just for poking about on here, eBay, BMW forum etc.

when pinging a site it shows you how many steps there is between you and them

with this info is the time in milli seconds between each server as this will show which server is causing the fault

dont post it on site but can give you enough info to have a go at your server supplier about the problem
