Frighteningly close to the escape velocity for this galaxy....
I think you may be a tad high there. LOL. I make it 62.8m/s, not even enough to get into orbit.

Fit n finish and choice of heat treatment. Don't get me wrong all knives should cut but things like broken tips or broken in general are the result of fast non selective heat treatmenttreatment, fast grinding lack of testing .
You can't choose anything ( i even know a guy who makes a good part of his income making a proper sheath and handle on factory mora)
It's not just fancy bits either , different steel choices give different performance. Most of the better steel choices are passed over by mass manufacturers cost , heat treatment isn't suitable for speed of production or machine production .
Ever had a knife that cut like crazy new but you singularly managed to maintain that level of sharp ?
Like everything in life it's a choice hatsan or Purdy ? Renult or rolls royce? toolmart or snap on ?

Well, not quite enough to escape Earths gravity, almost enough to launch into orbit though. At least this time we're not leaving the galaxy...

Diameter of 100mm (0.1m), circumference is 0.314m
12000 RPM is 200 revolutions per second, therefore 0.314m x 200 per second is the "edge speed" of a spinning disc. That is 62.8m/s or a still impressive 140mph.
Incidentally I am not kidding regards some of the rather high figures, you really could throw an object into orbit at around 11km/s but that is of course about twenty five thousand miles per hour.
...and if you launch from our solar system at much over 300 km/s, you really would have sufficient energy to escape from the entire galaxy.
A spinning wheel can generate a lot of "linear speed" at high rpm and things can get thrown off polishing wheels at ~100mph. Surely that's bad enough, we don't need to exaggerate this to intergalactic velocities.

Fault was worn bearings, only good thing was it was the owner whwas the victim not one of us employees.. A head shot would of course be instantly fatal

Stupidest thing I ever did, well one of them anyway. Refurbished an old Dumore toolpost grinder and decided to test an old wheel that came in the box.
20,000 rpm.
Since then I fitted a speed controller and changed the wheel. One of these days I'll make up a guard, I certainly won't be using it until that day happens!
<edit> actually, looking at that, that is pre-refurb. Zoiks. What was I thinking...

I was waiting for the bang, spoilsport 
I made a grinder in my yoof. An old 5" or 6" wheel from who knows where, and the motor from a vacuum cleaner. Now, I knew enough to know that the motor was series would so, without a constant load, would just accelerate until it destroyed itself. With this in mind I added some series ballast, a 100W light bulb
Even then, I needed to pulse the thing on and off else, unsurprisingly, it would still run away.
One day I was getting impatient with with an AMC brake cam I was grinding, so let it rev more. End result, wheel goes bang, window goes tinkle tinkle, I go "Oh damn" (or something similar) when a large piece of wheel ripped through my pullover and left a nice graze in my stomach
Still got the scar to prove it...
PS - I forgot the piece that also embedded itself in the ceiling
