The important thing to remember is that you ALWAYS work with an edge facing downwards i.e. in the direction of rotation. As soon as you give the mop a chance to catch an edge you're very likely to find yourself regretting it.

Knives can bounce off walls once propeled away. Hence mine is now retired

Many moons ago in metalwork I saw a nasty accident with a polishing wheel. It was sheer stupidity but then we were about 12.
One boy was polishing a piece of metal - his mate decided to dangle a piece on chain into the same wheel to polish it! Even though I was 12 I saw what was about to happen but my yell came a fraction too late. They were both lucky - just a few broken knuckles and lacerations - could have been far worse.
I have had these polishing mops grab at me a few times - hate them.

My only experience with this is when I was polishing up a bolt with a nut screwed onto it. Inevitably, the nut unscrewed....I've yet to find it in the shed.

Having a morbid curiosity, there are sites online where you can see hundreds of work related accident videos of countries where H&S is not applicable. The amount of unnecessary deaths is crazy. H&S can be a PIA, but I would rather have it than not have it.

I’ve traveled the world in my previous life as a H&S consultant. I’ve seen it all first hand

Here in the U.K. we have some of the worlds best standards

I was using a hand held grinder a month or so ago with a wire cup attachment, I was wearing builders gloves, the cream cotton ones with the orangle rubber grips. Well in the blink of an eye it grabbed a finger of my glove and had wound its self right up to my wrist but must have overloaded because it jammed. I was just staring for ages as the motor was buzzing, as my hand looked mangled, fingers pointing in all directions and I thought damn this is going to be a mess. I got it all apart and fortunately there was no cuts or anything broken, my hand was black and blue for a month though. It was a rough reminder for me to stop rushing on with things and check for all the usual hazards, loose clothing, any combustibles etc.

I just hope I dont need to learn the same lessons when my lathe and mill are operational.

A proper custom knife will beat factory hands down. Its like night and day with some although finish can be good on higher end factory

How ? Its a sharp bit of steel with a wooden or plastic handle. I have a Sheffield made, Taylor eye witness and a Mora i paid a tenner for, both excellent, great steel, holds a good edge, nice handle on the Mora, non-slip and all that, i don't see how it can be improved upon.

Mistakes with machines happen faster than any human can react. I’ve seen a piece of carbide sleeve explode while spinning at 24,000 rpm. It put holes through the slide on the CNC grinder and dented a 1” thick iron girder holding the roof up. It was out by .050” and touched the diamond grinding wheel while while rapid traverse was enabled.

Took a mm or two off my finger with a skill saw.
Shaved my knuckle on a compound mitre saw
The worst injury I've done to myself at work was removing an old stainless steel sink. Razor sharp and right on a bend of my fingers. Took days to stop weeping and weeks to heal.

Decided in my full of cold state to wire brush my Landy axle with a cup brush, managed to get it wound up in the stomach of my jumper . They suck themselves in pretty wuick

Same happened to me with my burnished. Grazed my entire stomach!

my mate has a hoody we made that has very thick supple leather stitched down the front that is doubled up in a few places, it has saved him a few times but It smells pretty bad as its hard to wash lol but it does the job, I recently was using my Dewalt 625 router and due to mine own stupidity the 1/2" rebating bit flew out and bounced down into my rib then into my knee, The damage is nothing bad but it has shook me up a bit and i have had to reduce the fibre in my diet for a bit.

On our wood moulders at work we are told that on a 100mm dia cutter, one gram out of balance at 12,000 rpm is equal to 12 radial ton so at 24,000 rpm the force must be immense!

Sounds high. I get 0.0089 ton-force

At 12k rpm, the apparent centrifugal acceleration is about 8000g (that's g as in g-force)

So your 1g imbalance "weighs" 8kg which is pretty awesome but nowhere near 12 ton.
