Well young old duffers then. I am involved with a scheme trying to get kids into the trade of fitter,, they do two days in college and we show them the various elements of the trade. Kids are just not interested in working with their hands or in anything you might get dirty at.

Yeh I know what you mean, if it doesn't involve computer stuff it's no interest to them. I'm certainly not old at 37 but I'm definitely a duffer

Well i have seen it first hand and a lot are simply not interested. The first day they spend in the machine shop, and its a real chore to get them to come back in after break, often its one or two. The last lot decided to have a pool tournament and look at porn on their phones

Right. And how many kids in the 70s were more interested in poncing around discos and concerts than the same.

Likewise for the 80s and 90s.

Plenty of kids spend there time tinkering with cars and bikes and have an interest.

I cant tar every young one the same but have noticed the younger end are more interested in there phones or been in cloud cuckoo land

teaching a new lad the job never done it before have to tell them 5 times to do a job a certain way and then they revert back to doing what they was doing in the first place
in 3 weeks has blobbed 3 times was really needed as deliverys was coming was there to help out unloading was ok first week

I actually think its the ability to concentrate they have lost, phones interfere with the ability to see things through. Seriously look at youngsters in a group, they stand there for a minute and the phone comes out for a check, and its put away again, a minute later same again, phone out and checking it.

How many adults in there 20s and 30s behave like that. Even in there 40s

You notice the people who do it but the ones who don't get lost in the crowd

It's no good looking at the people on the street. They've got nothing better to do. The ones that have things to do are hiding away getting on with it.

An interesting development.

I noticed today that the depth gauge where the quill stop would go was imperial, this prompted me to double check if the machine was metric.

We have metric knee and Y axis with an imperial X axis.

I'm assuming it's had a table transplant at some point.

It'd cost me the guts of £600 to get a metric lead screw and a couple metric dials so this may bring us to a conclusion on this potential purchase.

As a side note, the blanking plate where the quill power feed engagement lever would be is cleanish compared to the aged paint around it, I can't find another without power feed so I'm guessing it broke on this machine and was blanked off. There's also a bit of a twanging noise when the quill is lowered so I'm guessing theres a broken spring or something.

one reason I have learnt is don't complain when she buys stuff just quietly choke and say very nice when under your breath for christs sake .then when you buy and she chunters just quote she has just bought stuff and I didn't complain
