Brewery sink splashback

You’d hardly believe it, but there was a tiny bog in this little space when I moved in. Now converting to a brewery.

Looking for a splashback behind and to the right of the sink. Don’t want tiles. I was thinking of a simple stainless steel sheet, but these seem to be stupidly expensive on metals4u. Screwfix splashbacks similarly overpriced.

Any ideas?

Yes, fine. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but reasonably high as there’s lots of splashing when washing out kegs etc. A length of hose goes on that bib tap, which is controlled by the mixer tap next to it.

Ikea do/did a stainless splashback, thin stainless on a plastic IIRC.

You can get big tiles. In my outdoor brewery I used some of the leftover ones from our bathroom as the worktop and splashback with a bit of pvc angle behind the join filled with sealant. Think they were 300x600 tiles. Found a bit of tile edge bead that's at the top. Villeroy and Boch brewery!

Or get a shower panel and cut down???

What size do you need? Please give the measurements of both pieces.

Write down your expected budget and we can propose alternatives if stainless is never going to be within that figure.

0.9mm brushed stainless sheet comes in 2m x 1m or 2.5m x 1.25m and the smaller of the two in 304 is about £80 + VAT. (https://www.hygienicplastic.co.uk/p...-sheet-304-grade-brushed-2000-x-1000-x-0-9mm/). What will kill it as an an option is delivery.

Can you find someone local who is involved in commercial kitchens or anything food prep.-related or ductwork or extraction canopies? They would sell you something for cash.

Anyone nearby with a DeLorien on the driveway? Tin opener late at night and upgrade it to a convertable.

If you were this end of the world i would point you in the direction of a scrappy who gets suitable large offcuts of stainless steel every month on a regular basis.
But as you are in Scotland look out for a commercial kitchen supplier & see if they have anything. Gotta be somewhere up that end of the world

Check out Sweeney Kincaid auctions. Bit of a treck down to Glasgow where they usually hold stock but they’ve always got commercial kitchen equipment coming up for sale. There was a 2.4m stainless bench that went for ~£40 (inc. fees and vat) the other week in Perth which the top would have been easily cut down to form a splash back.

Hygenic plastic wall cladding...?
Comes in a few thicknesses, i'd recomend 2.5 or 3.
£30 should buy you an 8x4 sheet.

If the brewery activities are likely to be covered by hygiene regulations, then smooth surfaces with as few seams as possible should be the airm.

If you want to really cheap tack some dpc membrane to the wall

Plastic sheet >2.5mm. Don't use anything aggresive on it, weak hypochlorite and clean cloth would last enough brews to find any other solution pleasing to the eye or you just live with white plastic. It's cheap and it works well.

Plastic panelling for bathrooms would be perfect for that. Edge and corner trims available.

Find a local steel supplier. They might guillotine a sheet down to a size you can get in the car. Metals 4u are a rip off.

I’m only being tight-fisted. Was thinking 2mm stainless sheet, so it’s nice and substantial with no ‘wibbliness’. About £120-300 per m2 + VAT!

No, only covered by my regulations! Home microbrewery, 20L batch size so more like femto- or attobrewery.

Find your local stainless steel fabricator or laser cutters, many laser places have a press brake now.
