lol I didn't want it . I get recommendation jobs all the time of existing customers . that's all I need . no name on van not in telephone book and only work within 5 miles of my house and still have 2 much work on

I had the exact same fault with the fan cutting in for a few seconds then stopping,
No click from the gas valve and no ignition.
I was sure it was the pressure switch as well but I happened to tap the pcb while it was trying to start and it fired up straight away!
It was the pcb with a dry joint somewhere, I couldn't find it so got a recon pcb for £35 from a place in Watford.

worth checking. As I said earlier, I had the same fault a couple of years ago.

I did try knocking it before with the back end of a kitchen knife. did 4 or 5 attempts but no joy unfortunately

If your boiler is the same as a Potterton Profile it's the same as mine.

Oh and yes it's the exact same model, even identical to the same little blue sticker at the front.

Ahhhh! Came home from the pub last night to find a puddle around the boiler and no pressure in the jacket. Good old Bosch

Looks like the air bleed valve has sprung a leak.

I strongly recommend avoiding WB boilers.

I told you it was a potterton with Sime badges ! The only problems I've had is the board goes or the fan gives out . why your having people say it needs renewing is a nonsense parts are available they just can't be bothered want the big Jobs only !

It's not just the valve, it usually goes wrong every year, usually when I'm away so my wife has to get a plumber in, WB parts are overpriced as well. This time it's actually the top of the heat store tank that's rotten under the insulation. And typically I'm going away in about 2 hours, thankfully the wood burner is a bit more reliable! I'm going to extend the house in the spring and I will be fitting a new system boiler probably a Grant.

yeah been there and done that

But this boiler sime / potterton is a good boiler, I pulled one off the wall and fitted a combi (customers Choice) , took it it home and replaced my free standing boiler with it , its been in twenty years , one fan problem thats all , good boilers and still parts ready available , not as green as the new condensing boilers but still worth repairing !

Sorry to drag this up again

We ended up getting a new boiler fitted and all was fine and dandy.
But after after a few days the new boiler has started intermittently vibrating and making a he'll of a racket.
The chap who fitted it came the other week but the noise didn't occur while he was there.... any suggestions? The noise is coming from the actual boiler itself

Can you video it with a mobile when it makes the noise and show it to the engineer?.

It sounds as though it's kettling. Usually caused by a build up of sediment or scale. Since it's a new boiler scale can be discounted. Was the whole system flushed when the new boiler went in?

Last one I had like this the engineer had left an old anti gravity valve on the system, they had seemingly swapped the flow and return on the new boiler (not an issue as they also fit bi-flow trvs) but once up to temp the valve wasn't happy

Looking at your picture the pump is set to it's maximum speed, do you get the same noise if you choose either of the 2 slower speeds ?

You can bleed the pump by slackening the big silver slot head bleed screw a bit, but looking at how it's mounted I'd be surprised if it had any trapped air.

It's dead easy to swop a pump out, all you need to do is turn off the valves either side of the pump so you can change the pump without having to drain the system. Then just undo the big nuts where the valves bolt to the pump. The new pump will come with a pair of rubber washers to replace the ones sealing the valves to the pump that will be old, hard and brittle especially if the pump is in the flow from the boiler rather than the return line.
