I’d like a second hammer for panel beating like this but don’t fancy paying £26 has anyone seen any others cheaper?

It has to have a flat 20mm(approximately) pein

if its just the straight pein part of the hammer you want, just use a woodworking one but polish the faces to suit. the one I have is about 20 years old and was from Wilkinsons. It the hammer that Ive used most over the years for doing body work, mainly for rough shaping as the head has more weight than a finishing hammer. also shown with a kennedy doorskin hammer and sykes and pickavant flat face hammer.

I bought a Snap On set when they were on special and even then they were a chunk of money. I've had a look at the Sykes Pickavant ones and they are really well made and have a real quailty feel about them.

If it's a reasonably decent brand hammer, you can knock the handle off grind or forge it to what ever shape you want, then with a gas torch heat up the face so its getting towards a bright red let it soak back a quarter inch then hold it in the shade when it's dark red drop it in a bucket of water. Once it's cold stick a handle back on it and your off, though like postie jon even though i've got a loads of hammers and access to thousands I do tend to use the same two or three.

as said too by my old panelbeater gaffer , the guy that patiently taught me everything i know, its the guy using it not the hammer he's holding, boy was he rite.

Made hammers in odd shapes to get into tight corners but my go to is still the Proto 1427
Tried the carpenters hammer with polished face & peen it just did not feel comfortable in hand

No but I have had at least 40 years & it was not new when I bought it.

Most of mine were picked up on eBay on the cheap...£5 is my max though the SP I think was £10.

I use them as dollies and shape them as needed so they have to be cheap!

I have a box of them in the loft too somewhere....I just buy them when I see them. There are one or two that I se all the time but all are useful!

Not sure what a w77 is but i'd be surprised if we don't

I've a mixture and have favored the SP one I've had for years but it's too long for some spots.
I also recently got and really like the Kennedy ones @Burdekin linked to. (Unbelievable value at £10 each even without any discount.)

I decided to try and sort out my hammers.
Could say I've a bit of a habit but I'm sure other have it far worse.

Body work hammers and stuff are in a tool drawer now
I might try and make them more comfortable but it's OK for now but if there was a place for them, I am more inclined to put them back.

I've also rearranged the rest of my hammers (or the ones I use) from hanging on a tool board to a rack.

I ran out of room on the tool board a long time ago and was intending to make a rack for a while but I was in Lidl the other day and saw towel rail for a £10.
I was able to turn one of the posts to have the rails tighter at one end and added a bracket in the middle.

We will see if it lasts but I'm well pleased with it for now.
Just need to repaint the board and add more tools.
