Just sell the beeeeemer and buy a car with working indicators instead
Thanks for your valuable input Frankobviously u dont need the money....
instead u should have done an Aston Martin, Rolls or something....
Unless it's pre 1970 BMW are c@rp.....or am I missing something....
Bought the equipment as and when I needed it. You can see from some of the first pictures, I just started out with a socket set from Halfords - around 6 months ago. That's a seriously well equipped garage for someone who hasn't used spanners before
Those water hoses might 'look new', but if it was me i think id replace em for piece of mind. Realy impressive work especially considering its your first project and like the lift lotsView attachment 343024
AC lines stripped, polished and ready for plating!

Some more bits and bobs for plating.

Refitting the valve cover baffle. I drilled and tapped holes, and secured using 4mm socket flanged button screws from ACCU, in combination with the strongest loctite I could find.

Evaluating the headlights

Restored some hoses. They look new!

Got an absolute bargain on this thing. Similar to the monti MBX. Works amazingly well. Strips underseal in nottime and the wheels I were using were heavily used and not sharp. Still it teared through underseal and seam sealer. View attachment 343031
Headlights restored and ready for reassembly.

Looking over the ABS pump deciding if I should crack it open or not.

I considered it but they still feel very flexible. No tears nor hardening of the rubber. I think they may have been changed at some point. Those water hoses might 'look new', but if it was me i think id replace em for piece of mind. I guess you missed my query as you were in the midst of uploading.
Where did you get the lift from ?
Good work so far, the only thing I wouldn't have done is remove the baffle in the rocker cover.
Worrying about the screws coming loose and dropping into the head would give me nightmares.
Edit - tell a lie, I probably wouldn't have stripped down that ABS pump either

Will do, will get some photos once progress is made, having this weekend off for once!@onkeep it coming, enjoying this thread
I found my E30 very good too, It was mid 90s when the entire German motor industry stopped making good German cars and started making rather poor Japanese cars - full of unnecessary (and in their case rather unreliable) gimicks.I think your missing something
Have had a 1602, 2002, tii and then an E30 liked them all equally, definitely nowt wrong with an E30

Thanks for the positivity I appreciate it
I beg to differ with your differingI beg to differ. My e60 with virtually all the toys has been excellent since I got it 9 years ago. Now on 142k and still running very well. Just had the front wheel bearings replaced and afaict they were the originals.
[Hope I've not jinxed things, having written that.]
I beg to differ with your differing
I had a couple of 325i/328i E36s from the mid 90s and loved the straight 6 motors. 5 years ago I decided to upgrade to a 2007 E93 (the rather nifty folding hard-top, with the more modern straight 6 motor).
I sold it for scrap last year - the whole car was too fragile / unreliable / expensive & complicated to fix (the car has 4 back light clusters with LEDs in them and the LEDs often fail - then you need a whole new light at £180. The starter motor failed without warning - BMW quote 15 minutes to replace the starter + a half days labour just to remove/replace bits so they have access + at least £50 for new gaskets etc. The final nail was a faulty cruise contol / ABS pump (and flashing red "brake fault" warning on the dash - ie MOT fail), it's a common problem as the brushes wear, new brushes are 50p but you can't strip the unit to fit them, a new pump from the scrapyard is coded to the ECU so won't work. The usual fix is you pay a BMW dealer to code the new pump + fitting + £1800 for the new pump. When I sold mine I included 3 outstanding factory recall notices for the new buyer - no other car of mine has ever been recalled by the factory (I work away a lot and it was difficult to give the dealers time to order the parts and book the work before my next job started). I'll never buy another BMW made after 2005.
OP, apologies for the hijack. Loving your work so far, please keep updating this thread
