You can't get thicker than a kick fit fitter, did that today.
He got upset when I told him to re do it and torque it up correctly.
He even went as far to say; " Our air guns are torque set"

I went prove it.

I got my wheels done correctly when the manager arrived.

It's one of the most basic things they surely should know, how to loosen and tighten wheel nuts when you work as a tyre fitter.
Why don't they all know they have to tighten them to THE CORRECT TORQUE!
It's like not knowing what water is if you are a plumber!

I remember trying to undo a wheel nut [needed to replace a feed pipe to an oil cooler] which had been done up using one of the guns, and not at a KF place. Proved impossible, even with a 3-foot pipe on the brace.

Took the car back to the garage and asked the 'technician' to undo the nuts using my brace....much peching & grunting later and he admitted defeat. :rolleyes:

My mate works for Duetz fixing agricultural engines. He drives a mobile workshop kitted out with some big toys. He's on his way over

Time to invest in an impact wrench?

It's when you see the clowns who blast then up with the impact gun, then stick the torque wrench on and pull till it clicks. :mad:

Yet they were so tight with the gun they never turn with the torque wrench. :vsad:

I remember years ago reading about some new revolutionary nuts, they were a two part item pre-set to a specific required torque. Impossible to over tighten, Did anybody hear of them or did the just never progress past the prototype stage?

Ok Further update of this evenings events

Mate turns up with his van, in no time at all wheels nuts are cracked both sides and jobs on, Jack up the car and undo caliper, it's not comming off. Chock front wheels, start up car and disengage electronic hand brake. All good so far. Remove two bolts and calipers off. Bleedin Pistons won't go back. We now need the "special tool" of course it's not in his van so we nip back to his house (25 mile round trip). Then it goes all wrong.

We stopped at the pub for a quick one or two, got back home, well now it's too dark and I can't be bothered to get any more things out. So guess what? We had more beer and fired up the BBQ. Food n drink were ace but my poor car is still on stands until mate comes round tommorow with this "special tool"

This DIY malarkey is getting to be quite costly in food n beer.

Hopefully tommorow it should be sorted
