Black and Decker workmates

I had an original 70's Workmate, it was good quality and well designed. Sadly the 1mm thick pressed steel rusted through after a few weeks being left outside in the boatyard. Now I just improvise any needed outdoor workbenches, using cheap Screwfix plastic folding trestles, scaffolding planks and G-clamps.

Me too, bought a 400 type back in the late 70s, but left it on the company yacht for a couple of months. Paint wasn't so hot then, but still in action, cept one foot has just crumbled.

Designer was the guy who did the Lotus Elan. Made quite a bit off it, but had loads of hassle defending the patent.

Theyre probably usable as is just a bit stuff and the wood will need replacing at some point.

Will do when I get back. Off playing in the Highlands at the moment.

For the moment I'll settle for it running on land reliably and being able to retrieve red deer carcasses.

Did its first of the season yesterday and it was a pig to get it up there, brakes were misbehaving. Turns out they run a lot better when there's brake fluid in the master...

I remember when they first came out a lot of Chinese copies came into the country, there was an article about them being laid out on the ground and run over with a Drott to destroy them but some were so good they were badged as B&D and sold on by them.

Used 2 of these, a sheet of ply and 2 lengths of 4 x 2 to support 2 of us boarding a ceiling... really good trestles
