I didn't realise to legally use a single axle 3500kg trailer you have to go up to lorry tyres. Wheels were custom built £165 each plus vat. No wonder Ivor Williams use twin or triple axle. What are the wheels and hubs from or are they trailer specific?
8x5 bed. 4 foot high. I will be able to load it to the top with wood no problem. Also lathes and milling machines. Weighs 1 ton unladen so can legally carry 2.5.Just wondering what you're going to carry on that size trailer that needs 3500kg axle?, difficult to tell from the pics but the bed doesn't look very big.
Nope. The axle and drawbar alone cost £3500 plus vat new.6 of everything on a triple axle has to be very expensive though, wheels, tyres, suspension, brakes....
Good grief ,,, that got expensive very quickly , but it certainly will be handy.Nope. The axle and drawbar alone cost £3500 plus vat new.
Tyres are £350 each.
I bought the axle and drawbar new for only £500. The company had taken a genny off it for truck mounting.Good grief ,,, that got expensive very quickly , but it certainly will be handy.
lol ,,, suddenly its a total bargain ,,, win winI bought the axle and drawbar new for only £500. The company had taken a genny off it for truck mounting.
Then I found out wheels and tyres needed replacing. Got 3 part worn tyres for £90
Mind you replacement cost of all this would probably be around £10k![]()
Thats the big advantage of 4 and 6 wheel trailers. Balance and not overloading the back end of the motor. Its ok putting 3500kg on the trailer but what are you going to tow it with? Most vehicles have a very limited towbar loading and with the wheels of your trailer quite a way behind the centreline it may could overload the tow vehicle.
Wow I’d no idea that to buy all of those components new would cost so much, a new twin axle rated to 2.7 tonnes would cost a lot less and have a bigger bed, good job you didn’t have to buy new, I guess your particular specifics make it necessary, you’ve a relatively lightweight trailer which can carry a very large payload, obviously quite specific for your needs.Nope. Ahh but I had a cunning plan! Its ok putting 3500kg on the trailer but what are you going to tow it with? Most vehicles have a very limited towbar loading and with the wheels of your trailer quite a way behind the centreline it may could overload the tow vehicle.
Your a bit out of touch with current new trailer prices I think. Last week, before I did the brakes and cables on my Nugent trailer I spoke to two of our local trailer dealers regarding a new replacment. Nugent guy had same trailer in stock as mine 14 ft with vat, sides, ladder rack etc it was just shy of 6k including vat. Ifor was about 100 cheaper like for like but they said it could be a 6 month wait.Wow I’d no idea that to buy all of those components new would cost so much, a new twin axle rated to 2.7 tonnes would cost a lot less and have a bigger bed, good job you didn’t have to buy new, I guess your particular specifics make it necessary, you’ve a relatively lightweight trailer which can carry a very large payload, obviously quite specific for your needs.
What are you towing it with though? Can’t think of anything other than a discovery which can go to 3.5K other than a commercial vehicle.
