Hello everyone, this is my first post so I hope you will be kind I am embarking on a new project to build an off road buggy, which also means learning how to weld. I have already gained a lot of knowledge by reading these forums, but I'm stuggling a little with the best tool for cutting box section.
The majority of the frame will be made from 1 1/4" by 1 1/4" 14swg box section, and I will need to make a lot of angled cuts. As far as I can tell I have 4 options; 1. By hand 2. Grinder 3. Chop saw 4. Band saw. Option 1 is out of the question, 2 and 3 are noisy and I don't want to annoy the neighbours which leaves 4. I have a pretty small budget (less than £100) so will be looking at second hand tools.
Is a smallish bench mounted bandsaw suitable for cutting box section and is any bandsaw capable of cutting metal with the right blade? If you have any recommendations for a particular brand/model I should be looking for that would be a great help. Thanks in advance for any/all advice.
fair enough the hacksaws the cheapest, but if you have 15 cuts to make . . . thats pure cruel and if its at an angle then you have to cut more steel
Sometimes I wonder about the replies people get on here... Its not ALWAYS about the 'best possible tool'.
Got an Evo saw too, a 100 squid sliding mitre one. Versatile but the blades don't last all that long really
