best place to buy steel

Hi Everyone

I am new to the site, the question has proberly been asked many times, were is the best place to get steel for making up gates/fences etc, Iam new to welding but i am looking into getting a few things done round the house and want to DIY it myself.

There are a few internet sites but you would be better to find a local supplier, can be a fair bit cheaper..although most will argue steel is never cheap.

They usually give a little discount on quantity, I tend to buy 20 lengths of mixed profiles for my gates etc and at that get about 15% off the price of single lengths.

Try Grampian Steel at Oldmeldrum as they will cut profiles to length and deliver, prices have always seemed reasonable.

Fintry, do Grampian do scrolls and other gate material or is it just plain steel they do?

There's Metals4U on the internet.

I haven't had to buy any metal yet, but bookmarked this when I came across it.

Would be good to know if anyone has experience with them and whether they offer a reasonable price compared to local suppliers etc?
