Post Steel suppliers- Your help please

I am createing a couple of pages for Malcolm-
The first, on the common bars sizes and sheet sizes that steel comes in.

The second part of this, will be a list of friendly steel stockholders or fab shops that are happy to deal with the odd DIYwelder coming in for a few offcuts.
I would appreciate some details of the ones you use, Names, addresses and phone numbers would be good, but just names and rough locations will do.

What sort of stuff do they keep, would be handy to know also, sheet, structural, non-ferrous....

You can either post them here, or send them to me via PM.

Cheers everyone.

Ken Stokes/ Sherri Stokes

Devizes Steel Supplies
The Old Sawmills
Sells Green
Seend
Melksham
Wiltshire
SN12 6RW
Tel 01380 827155

Very diy friendly, minimum charge £5. They supply welding gases (I think it's Air Liquide but I'm not sure). They have a very large shop upstairs selling tools, machinery, fasteners and welding consumables. They have a 16mm capacity guillotine and a Geka steelworker, no pressbrake though.

Hitch this site lists all the common bar sizes and weights

http://www.industrialmetal.co.uk/, There also my local stockholders, huge stock, Anyone dealing with them should speek to "lofty" on cash sales hewill give you the best price, even if your intending to pick up from the front counter phone ahead, overwise you will be overcharged.... and buy the whole bar your be charged for the entire length anyway.

E.J Alloys, SS0 ONW, 01702 342727 Funny little shop, but they can get any special metals cut to size, phos, coppers, ally, etc. very pricey, and they call me Sir which anoys me..

Rayleigh Steel Ltd
Unit 7, Rawreth Industrial Estate, Rawreth Lane, Rayleigh, Essex SS6 9RL
Tel: 01268 783600
Small stockholders handy for DIYers Id say as bars are cut to length, and bought by the mtr, Pricey compared with IMS but not really the same market..

P & A hydraulics, 01702 549241 often has off cuts of round bar to various specs, as well as CDS tube spec'ed and certified.... The owner is hard work, and blows hot and cold, sometime's he's helpfull sometimes not..

All these are in the Southend area... any good hitch, I know a few more if you want em?

I've used Twigg's in Matlock - they stock all kinds of steel but are also an engineering workshop so have offcuts which they sell by the pound - a great place to rummage - not much help to you in Somerset I'm afraid

Thease guys are as good as your going to get around here, the small stockholders and fabbers just dont exist anymore, IMS would be my first choice as long as you've got a credit card they wont care less who there dealing with a huge firm with a massive stock hence the lack of other stockholders..
