Yep. I was on a Y size BOC cylinder, but I had dropped off their rental radar. This too was refilled a long time ago, probably more like ten years. The cylinder is still here. With retiral looming (in 2 weeks) I was thinking I am not being sensible with my gas contract:
I have had one refill in 7 years for an Argoshield light size Y - now paying £81 a year rental.
BOC is handy as there is a depot 2 miles away, though for all the refills i need, a trip to Glasgow every few years is no hardship.
What is likely the best option, I imagine I am not the only one on this situation?
Thanks
Update, BOC bottle returned to depot, was up in Oban yesterday and the SGS distributor is Oilfast at Oban airport: £100 plus vat deposit and £69 for 20l Of Argon 5.
I had priced Hobbyweld who were £117 for the gas and £110 deposit in Dunoon.
So am an SGS customer now.
No, feel free to pm meYou're aware of how to get the cashback from SGS?
Theoretically yes, however when you have two cylinders and two receipts for the deposits paid to a closed motor factor you are stuffed. I could not get the bottles exchanged by another re seller, when I spoke to SGS I was told that they could not influence their re sellers. I have an empty Ar cylinder and an almost empty Ar / CO2 mix that I can't exchange unless I pay another two deposits to another re seller.Keep the bottle receipt safe you get it back if you return bottle

We (SGS Gases) can do a direct credit to your bank account for the deposit and ask one of our distributors to return your cylinder with their empty cylinders.
HiThat is great to hear. I think I'll be making the switch quite soon when I slim down my welding equipment; do we get in touch with you through the forum?
Much appreciated.
You will only get a percentage of the deposit back if you surrender the cylinder with Hobbyweld.I have just got into welding for my Fairlane, got a good deal on R tech gear, and got two bottles of gas from hobby weld, both 20ltr,
paid deposit and price of gas, all you pay for after is the refill, which at my speed of learning and doing would be years away, plus
when i return the bottles i get my deposits back.
