Best option for 3ph to 1ph drill

single to three phase inverters of that power can be had for less than £200, in fact there is a bargain to be had on ebay as we speak :-

Brand new single phase 230v input 3 phase output (still 230v) inverters starting at less than 80 quid (plus VAT though).

If your motor can be wired in 230v/Delta, there's no contest if you ask me.

cheep as chips really. your not going to find a motor for that and that would make changing speeds easier set the belt on a low speed then up the Hz. have had a couple of drives off them before they know there stuff

Personally I'd change the motor.

I've recently motorised a set of slip rolls.
I used a 4 pole motor from electric-motor-man (google for his eBay shop)
I found him very helpful as I needed a slow reversible motor and also wasn't sure of the HP needed. His prices are good as well.
(1 HP £77 - 2 HP £105)

Now I've done this I'm thinking of changing the motor on my 16 speed MT3 Sealey drill as reversing would be handy for tapping.
Then again, would it be better to buy an MT3 Fobco and convert to 1ph, with a reverse switch.
A Fobco has a gearbox, the Sealey has double belts. Decisions, decisions.
