Beryllium? Hammer

+1 for this as you already know - ISTR in the military anything with beryllium in it (Usually electronics stuff) was treated the same way as radioactive valves etc, with proper disposal procedures if there was a breakage or possible contamination.

And friction washers on the ends of screw jacks.

If you machine them it's probably not an issue. It's the fine particulates that are the problem.

I am sure you are correct, however they would be bound to get a light tickle with a disc. They'll just get a debur now

The ceramics in semiconductors could be beryllium oxide and I seem to recall that was more of a concern than the metal itself. If it had become tarnished or corroded, cleaning it up could have been an issue, but as it is so shiny, just a thin layer of a wax should keep it looking god and safe also?

Yes, I bought high wattage 50ohm resistors from China which were beryllia, with mounting flanges much like power FET's. I built an RF power meter (up to 100W) which worked by measuring their temperature after 10 seconds on, having calibrated them with a DC power supply.

It can be done, but most home workshop’s won’t have the right controls

Picked up some handles today, trying to decide what to put on this head.

Option 1. 16" ash
Probably the kind of handle it would have had so looks right. Great for wailing on things, which I'm almost deffinately not going to do. Seems the most correct option bit may make it unwieldy for anything else.

Option 2. 14", unknown wood.
Length is quite nice, but skinny though. Looks a bit odd, probably not going to feel very nice, may feel like it wants to turn in the hand. Still an option though.

Option 3. 10" club hammer, unknown wood. I'm thinking this may be my favourite. Bit of an odd choice maybe. Looks a little strange, but considering I'm going to be using this (infrequently) for persuading things that a copper hammer is too soft for and a steel hammer is too hard for, this may be best.
Really not whatnot should have though so feels a bit of a shame.

I did think that. Might not be able to take 2" off the bottom without starting to hold the taper. Could get 1" of each end i think though.

Non spark hammer, we had a full set, chisels, spanners etc, used when working on blowers and duct work containing fine titanium powder,

All the nonsparking hammers we used to make were just brass. I'd put the 1st handle on, I tried a 10" lump hammer handle on a 2lb ball pein and it was awful.

#1 is the best out of the 3 but it's (imo) too short and not fat enough at the far end.
Flame black it, hard at the far end and taper off towards the head. 1 scotch off squeazed out with some oil.

Best way to make a handle nice is to use it...
