BBQ recommendations?

I have a Webber that I recently bought which I really like. My friend and my parents have Webber too and they also last a really long time. My parents one they’ve had for over 15years, looks like new still other than the griddle bit. I wouldn’t waste my money on anything cheap.

I currently have the smokey joe premium which is the smallest one they do, I wanted to take it on trips hence buying it. I will however be buying a larger one when my garden patio done.

This is one I'm considering as it'll go with caravan. That's if brakes will release and let it move again after 3 Covid years. I'm at an age now where things will outlast me. Not the other way around.

Got a Weber 'Go anywhere' charcoal that we've had for years. Lives in the caravan. Seen plenty of use and still looks great. Quality costs, but lasts. Also have this Charbroil charcoal and gas version for use at home. It's Brill pour charcoal on, light the gas burners for 10 mins and the coals are almost ready to cook on. If your coals burn out before your finished cooking you can fire the gas up again. You can use it solely on gas too but I much prefer charcoal.

I had a gas outback one it lasted me 15 years trouble free

I had an Outback gas BBQ until last year until it went bang during use. I’d had it close on 2 decades and mainly kept outside so it had a good run. Replaced it with a Weber Kettle bbq and enjoying going back to charcoal with indirect cooking, smoking and more flavour.
Another bonus was easily cleaned after use, the Outback always was more awkward to clean up properly

Got one here...but the intended use is a trommel.

I had to look up what a Trommel is (a posh rotary sieve is hie my brain sees it ).
Now I know, that sounds like a good idea (if you need a Trommel that is)!

I have to admit...that overall I've never really understood the BBQ concept & appeal (esp in one's own garden, esp here in UK).
People walk out of a perfectly good kitchen, where all the facilities and the food are already..... to carry the raw food outside, set up a whole new portable grill, fuel etc - so they can cook their food (usually not as well as they could in the kitchen) a few metres away from far superior facilities (the kitchen).
I get that it's nice to eat in the garden in good weather - but surely it makes more sense to cook the food in the kitchen, THEN carry it outside?

No, food cooked on charcoal is impossible to recreate or better in a conventional kitchen.

Yes I much prefer cooking on real lump wood, although after drinks when people get hungry again the gas one gets lit

My work colleague's husband has one that he can control the temperature by Bluetooth. American made, think it cost about £2000. That makes for an expensive sausage!

That aspect I can relate to.

Yeah agree that a gas bbq is not the finest outdoor cooking method.

To some extent I agree. However the favour is from the smoke from the burning fat (not the charcoal, wood is different) and unless you have good extraction system it isn't really feasible. The superior taste of slow broiled chicken halves (90mins) is well worth it. I don't like rotissiere cooked chicken, because as the meat dries out the fat rolls round and round and takes it place. If you like greasy chicken not a problem. I cook mine skin side up always and broiled with lid closed. The meat drains. The rest of it is cooked indoors.

BTW. one thing I discovered many years ago was that if you put an onion on as it is, complete, the end result is superb. In fact the middle squeezes out if you trim the top first.

I'll have to try that when it warms up, bell peppers are good BBQ'd too. Roll on summer.
