Between home and workshop yard.
I got about 50mtrs of Beech hedge (8ft high but only cut one side) - 40mtrs of Privet (too high but only cut one side) - 100mtrs of conifers (too high and and too deep - but only cut one side) - 30mtrs of new conifers (5ft high cut both sides) and about 35mtrs of Pyracantha trained up an old wire fence (6ft high cut both sides). Plus a few odd bushes at home.
I have always used Echo petrol 2 stroke hedgetrimmers - plus I got one Honda 4 stroke HHH25S 75 (good tool but heavy).
I want a pole one - never had one before - might go petrol - might go Honda again.

You putting me off a battery tool mate...
If doing the side of hedges then a normal strimmer harness and a change in technique goes a long way. A decent pole hedge trimmer can reach the whole face of a 7ft hedge from one harness position just swung up and down.
It should be mentioned that the proper strimmer harnesses are the only things worth having. The single loop or even the cheap 3 point harnesses are a torture device sent from hell.
If you want to get really technical then proper hedge cutter harnesses are available with an overhead crane. But they cost more than most would be prepared to pay for the actual hedge cutter.

In this case, the echo pole trimmer is blinding we had 4 no issues fantastic machines.

It depends how much shrubbery/hedging you need to cut, & how frequently you trim it. If you keep on top of it & trim the tufting off frequently, you're not asking much of the gear.

Yeah security choice - I planted it - kids kept climbing over wire fence at back of workshop - now they don't.
Pyracantha "firethorn" = "gods own barbed wire".
I grew this from cuttings the whole 40mtrs ish - double planted.
Dog walking - penknife in pocket = stolen hedge.

I'm not surprised they stopped.
I like Rosa Rugosa mixed with Dog Rose or wild rose for a security hedge. But I picked Pyracantha as I wanted to put it both sides of an old chainlink fence - train it to fence with wire ties for a start - get the shape and secure the old fence - sort of "train my Dragon".
Plus there is miles of this stuff in Yellow (Soleil d'Or I think) planted between the local sports field and a housing estate - so endless cuttings without stealing from little old ladies gardens.

), but unless you're cutting consistent stuff, the harness is a ballache. You lose some degree of dexterity with it.

Cutting hedges is hard work - proper hard work.
I do try and keep on top of mine - sort of have a little nibble now and agian.

I definitely don't disagree with that. My shoulders always feel it for a week or two after winter, until I get back into the swing of using the hedgecutters.

It is not on the scale of "brinks matt" - this council hedge is on the edge of some football fields - it must be half a mile long and they cut it with a tractor with an arm cutter. But is is real healthy specimen - they not missed a pocket full of cuttings mate...
Plus it is the gift that keeps on giving - my hedge is now 6ft and I took cuttings from this a couple of years ago - as I am planing to plant another 4mt run row - to block another bit of bad fencing up.
Takes patience to grow a hedge from cuttings - planting spares to fill gaps and voids when plants fail.
