Hi all and thanks for letting me join.
Work have asked me to look into a battery powered Arc welder.
I know they only do around 25/30 2.5 rods but does anybody have any real experience with these?
Many thanks,
Geoff.
IAs mentioned above, it won’t do as many rods, but you can charge it and weld at same time from a 2kw generator
That's bloody good - usually you'd need a reasonably big genny for a welder - and that makes it do-able from 2kw - not bad!
I reckon this should be much higher up in the "marketing bumph", then - as that's quite a feature!
And I definitely hadn't realised this, until now.
Do both the Lorch & the Fronius have that ability?
All the Best,
CJ
No. That's just on the Fronius. It's called Hybrid mode.
Damn!
CJ
Get on their case, Matt!
It’s because the battery is always connected on their system so they can use the battery to boost the incoming power. It’s good in that sense.
Ours is designed so that the battery is independent and can be disconnected and left at home/office/workshop and only bought out when it’s needed. Good in the sense that the weight of the system can be reduced by over 50% when you don’t need the battery and also you can double/treble up with batteries like you would with a conventional power tool if you have a lot of “off grid” welding to do.
Positives and negatives to both designs
The cynic in me sees a big positive for Lorch there too, don't have to design a more complicated BMS that will weld while charging and you get to sell more batteries. It’s because the battery is always connected on their system so they can use the battery to boost the incoming power. It’s good in that sense.
