Generally most of these shows are the same...the profits come from the TV side of things so doesn't really matter whether the car project stacks up as the main purpose is to create/sell entertainment.

I think some are quite entertaining....there's a few on Discovery+ that I really enjoyed. I'm not a big fan of the bodging...I watched one show (don't recall which show) where they took a classic british sports (think it was maybe a triumph stag) and basically stuck loads of filler.

I quite like watching chasing classic cars...thats more my sort of thing.

I wonder if they will mention the part built miniature traction engine they bought - briefly seen in shot during ep 2 I think - only to find the time scale to finish it - up to 2 years - recently been advertised on FB for this reason.

I've been watching the series, some of it's quite interesting although there's some very dodgy work being done - case in point for me being the respray of the Vanden Plas 1300 that left overspray all around the bottom of the car, for the sake of half an hour of masking. And doing all that work on a nondescript Capri, but leaving a big hole at the back of the roof on the tailgate aperture was just daft.

On another forum, the thread for B&C has contributions from one of the production team and it's been very interesting to hear their side of the story. There are limitations to how well the business model will be - having to both buy and sell through Matthewsons for a start, when they might have got better money going for a specialist tricycle or motorcycle auction. But that's just because the series is a spin-off from B&C, not a totally separate thing, so it has to remain linked. Unfortunately some of the comments about the work done in this series has put them in a difficult position, can't really post in public about companies and individuals that they need to keep a working relationship with, so they've stepped away from posting, which is a pity because the insight was usually very interesting.

Yep, there's a whole huge world of content to be found on there. No Idea why some people are so against it.

Use Brave browser to get rid of adverts.

Take your pick of content, playback at 1:25 speed or faster, flick through all the boring introductions, replay the good bit's, use the history, converse with the channel owner if you feel like it, watch real people doing real things.

I've met a couple of youtube posters and we've got on well due to getting to know them through commenting, just like on this forum.

Be in control of your viewing, what's not to like?

Be in control of your viewing, what's not to like?

Wannabe TV stars.
Intrusive background music.
Impossible to view when other people are trying to watch TV or do other things in the same room.
Difficulty in working out what they mean often.
Annoying accents that are hard to understand when (like me) you have hearing deficiencies.
You cannot easily take it in the bath to read or out in the engine bay when you are covered in grease.
Not as easy as written material to bookmark and re-read a particular part.
Clear lack of knowledge and ability sometimes on technical subjects, sometimes dangerously.
The proliferation of these 'videos' is killing normal websites and written explanations. Design Spark Mechanical being a good example, that ALL of their 'help' files require you to sit through a video.


I can read and understand text. It is far easier to do that, than watch some daft video and it doesn't addle my brain.
If I can't fnd an alternative to a YT 'video' I will do without, thank you.

On top of that, it's part of Google.

But you have to be inflicted with them once, to avoid them in future. I don't have enough time nor interest to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Part of the issue is that in order to widen the appeal beyond car fans they manufacture drama, catastrophes during the restoration, rows amongst the staff, and build the tv show around 'characters' instead of the cars.

This works quite well in the original Bangers and Cash where the characters, countryside, and general amiableness and enthusiasm of the staff is part of the appeal. It quickly becomes tiresome in stuff like Flipping Bangers and Chop Shop Garage where the characters are less likeable and it's clearly scripted.

I agree that if you want content about actual work on cars YouTube has better stuff, though I too struggle to separate the wheat from the chaff. I have enjoyed Edd China's Shed show on there though. High production values so easier to watch than a lot of YouTube stuff.

I'll stick with the B and C restoration show for now though, if only to enjoy guessing how much they lose on resale.

I run Youtube on my laptop, with Ad-Blok, hooked up to the TV. I know Youtube relies on adverts for revenue, and I wouldn't mind just a few, but the sheer overwhelming dross they force into nearly every video is ridiculous.

I agree, I never see a single ad using Brave, but some of the 'influencers' have started doing their own in the video, annoying but you can easily skip them.

Some were funny though, I remember the one where he wakes a parts dealer up in the middle of the nigth and "forces" him to go to his storage in his birthdaysuit.
