WNS and Stakseys both sell the same smallest shear but cheaper.

Baliegh are big in the US metal shapping scene and think there stuff is supposed to be okay. I'd say the shear is a rebadged product.

First time I've ever seen such a thing. Used a straight cut guillotine one or "normal" bench shear, never seen this type!

You can cut straight on a throatless too afaik. I've never actually used one despite wanting one for a good few years now.
I'll bring it over when I got it mate and you can play.

im in the EXACT same position as you, badly badly need one, but have been holding out for a beverly for too long - i too have only come up with baileigh as a semi-contender.
are you going to get one?

From what I have read on the copy shears they don't just come out the box and "work". They need the blades setting up and possibly the bolts need a bit of adjustment here and there to get them usable. I've also seen some yt vids showing them covered in this storage grease preventing them from moving as should so may require pulling apart for a clean up. The blades won't be as hard as the Beverly I doubt but then Beverly blades cost more than the whole China copy shear so I don't expect miracles. We shall see. I'll do a little more digging before I shell out.

I know it's not the same but I got the 200mm BS200 bench shear from Cromwell when they were on special for £120, and it's a really nice bit of kit. Works a treat and I use it often. I'd assume but I could be wrong that the Baliegh might be similar quality.

Yeah they very well could be. You never really know till you get 2 side by side and compare.
Give or take 50-80 quid they are all priced in a similar region. I wouldn't be surprised if they are all the same shear. The thing that struck me towards baileigh is they offer it in two sizes which other copy shears don't do. This may or may not mean they are slightly different. (Better/worse?????) who knows.

to be fair, i think the baileigh one's look a little more refined than the other generic ones (although as we all know this could mean nothing).
really with these, the blades are the the cream.
almost any cheapenese device can be set up well depending on how much time you spend fettling/modifying it. blades, not so much.
i dont 'think' the baileigh items are rebranded crap, like Richard said offering 2 sizes and the general finish of the close up items suggests that.
Surely they wouldnt buy in crap, deburr all the rough castings, change hardware etc etc just to sell on a cheap product?

I have worked in the Midlands Baileigh industrial depot not for them but wiring their place when they moved. A friend of mine works for them doing transport, it is just down the road from me actually. They do have some very good quality kit and have open days where you can come and play with anything and everything they do, all the bits I have had a go on made me (need one) want one. They like everyone else who imports do suffer from damage but from what I have seen they take customers satisfaction very seriously. Well worth a go imho!

Great post Sparks. Ok I'll give it a whirl. Shear will be coming from baileigh tools then. Thanks gents for the input. Ill update the thread once I have had a good play with it and can pass judgment. Yes yes @Brad93 i suppose you can have pull on my lever too

Seriously though the kit I played with was well made and did what it was supposed to. I would have no problems buying tools from them myself! Hope it does all you want it too and more!!

The Eastwood one is the Harbour Freight model, looks fine for a bit of DIY stuff. For £120 reckon I'll give one a go.

For a laugh I priced up a door to door on a b2.
$800 on the shear $400 shipping and that's excluding the import tax.
Think I'll be giving that a miss.

Apart from my large Edwards shears I have one of these Sykes Pickavant cutters and use it a fair bit because it's great for curves.

Probably had it for well over 20 years and it's still on it's original cutters, I don't cut stainless though.

I don't know the scale of work you do or require one for but if you think it may do what you want @Richard. then you could borrow it for a couple of weeks before investing.

Edit: Just realised it may look like I am offering it on a try before buy , mine is not for sale, much too handy to part with.

Very kind Steve but I think (could be wrong) that's going to be a little light for the work I have in mind 2mm mild 3mm Alu max.
