Baileigh tools. (Any good)

I'm gonna buy a throatless shear. My waiting around for a nice used B2/B3 Beverly has coughed up nothing and I'm gonna have to come to terms with the fact I'm not gonna get one and I'll have to buy a Chinese copy.
Lots of companies appear to copy this shear and most are not ones I wish to deal with due to the fact imo they sell utter.
Soooooooooo I've been looking at baleigh. They do 2 sizes of the shear which other cheaper copies don't, they are a little more pricey (does that mean better on quality side????) and they do lots of work shop tools like folders, mills, tube benders etc.
Now the question. Have you guys used baleigh tools. I mean "used" not bought and stared at as this shear will make my life sooooooooooo useful I'd imagine I'll use it all the time. I'm peeed off I can't have a Beverly as the tool snob in me really only likes to buy the best of things hence the thread of such questions.
Q 1. Is baleigh any good.
Q 2 if not who makes a decent copy of that shear.

If anyone on here in the meantime is lucky enough to own a Beverly throatless shear and daft enough to consider flogging it please pm me as you'll have no problem squeezing a load of cash out of me for it (subject to condition of course).

I've just googled throat less shear. Do you mean like, a 6ft handle which shears through metal. Like scissors almost? I'm in the process of restoring one, found in a scrapyard, all ceased. Its no longer ceased.

Can you post a photo of what you're looking for.

Needless to say its not a Beverly or baleigh? I only picked it up as it was too good to be binned, it just fell into the back of my van when I was dumping scrap......

Them beverly shears go for good doe...i looked ages ago for a rotory throatless shear. A cluple of companies made some big vintage ones... aint came across any as yet.

The scrapyard has one for cutting up copper. They need to be bolted to the floor to work, I cut 5 or 10 mm steel bar with this one, works a treat.

A throatless shear is a sheet metal cutting tool
It has 2 radiused blades that marry together like a pair of scissors.
Because there is no deep throat at the pivot point like a conventional shear they allow you to cut curves. You can turn the job mid cut. At the moment I'm doing such things with a plasma at work or tin snips on thinner gage. With a throatless sheer the possibilities are limited only by your material thickness. No sparks , no kerf, no dressing and no HAZ.

The pivot point is set at an angle and fits to the base as curves round and up. Result is no tool throat. 2nd pic is the baleigh I'm considering. Could use some non bios reviews on there gear mind before I pull the trigger.

Is there a small gear on the end of the handle to get even more torque out of it? If so, that's awesome, I've never seen one of them before!

Yes there is a gear mechanism on the handle.

Cheers mate. But not what I'm looking for. TBH I know exactly what I want I just don't know who to buy from. Baileigh was the choice purely on the fact they make a good number of W/S tools so have a little experience in tool making might see me with a nice product??? They might build total rubbish in which case I won't bother.

Got a bandsaw and iron worker made by them. Both get used daily not had any problems with either a lot of their stuff is copies or are made by someone else with their name on it (my ironworker has sunrise on a lot of parts).

This also means spares are readily available. I have found some spares and ironworker tooling from baileigh to be quite pricey but I've found other sources

Quite a few people with their stuff and if your local to them I'm fairly sure they'll let you visit and try out before purchasing

Evening Richard. I have a set of Baleigh section rolls that I'm very happy with, well made and have stood some abuse. And my small 210M band saw is from them. well made, good value compared to similar, just wish I could stop the dam thing breaking blades though.
Mate of mine has some Baleigh metal shears of the more conventional type, pretty robust if a little loose on the pivots. Generally their stuff seems to be fairly decent quality at a reasonable price, some of their gear is a bit "How Much" though.
I think they source their kit from different makers around the world, my rollers are Portuguese made if I remember right.

I'm not overly concerned about the shears price as it's very cheap (£250 ish) when compared to the Beverly
Glad to hear they provide decent gear. I think they will be supplying me with a shear next week.

Yes they can but it's always nicer to get it right in the first place and get some user feedback.
I can do without the hassle of boxing it back up and waiting for a refund.

First time I've ever seen such a thing. Used a straight cut guillotine one or "normal" bench shear, never seen this type!
